Classification: Reference: BT21-029 Date: NTB22-008 February 14, 2022 DETERMINING CORRECT WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP OPERATION APPLIED VEHICLES: 2021-2022 Rogue (T33) SERVICE INFORMATION The windshield washer system of the APPLIED VEHICLES operates differently than those used in past models. The benefits of this new style of system are: More efficient use of fluid The windshield washer fluid spray does not block the driver’s vision when cleaning the windshield The windshield washer fluid sprays directly onto the windshield only. This prevents the washer fluid from being sprayed onto the vehicle behind you, or nearby pedestrians. If the customer indicates that the front windshield washer is not working, or has poor performance, use the SERVICE PROCEDURE in this bulletin to confirm correct operation. If the windshield washer pump is found to be functioning properly, educate the customer on the system benefits, as indicated above. If the windshield washer pump is not be functioning properly, refer to the ESM for further diagnostic information. Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/5 SERVICE PROCEDURE To confirm correct operation: 1. Locate the windshield washer pump tubes connected by a barbed connector. This will be found under the hood on the passenger side near the strut mount. Figure 1 Pump side 2. Separate the “pump side” tube from the barbed connection, and leave the barbed connector in the “nozzle side”. Nozzle side Figure 2 2/5 NTB22-008 3. Start the vehicle. 4. Take the pump side of the tube, and aim it down into an empty container. 5. Have a helper activate the vehicle’s windshield washers. This is to “prime” the system, and this fluid should be discarded. Pump side of the tube Figure 3 6. Immediately after priming the tube, place the tube into a graduated cylinder, and have your helper activate the windshield washers for five (5) complete windshield wiper strokes. IMPORTANT: Measurements will not accurately reflect the pump performance if the collection of the fluid is not done immediately following priming of the pump. Graduated cylinder Pump side of the tube Figure 4 7. Take the pump side tube out of the graduated cylinder and set the graduated cylinder on a flat surface. 3/5 NTB22-008 8. Check the amount of fluid that was collected from five (5) complete windshield wiper strokes. If the windshield washer pump is operating correctly, the fluid collected should be more than 145 milliliters. If the windshield washer fluid is less than 145 millileters, refer to the ESM for further diagnostic information. Should be more than 145 milliliters Graduated cylinder Figure 5 4/5 NTB22-008 CLAIMS INFORMATION Submit a Primary Operation (PP) type line claim using the following claims coding: (1) DESCRIPTION PFP OP CODE SYM DIA FRT Inspect Washer Pump Output (1) RXA3AA TBD TBD 0.2 Reference the electronic parts catalog and use the Front Washer Pump Assy (28920*****) as the Primary Failed Part (PFP).
