Technical Service Bulletin 94-22-01 - Taillights Cluster Condensation Transaction No: 2066639/1 Release date: 3/29/2022 Condition Applicable Vehicles Model(s) Year Eng. Code Trans. The lenses of the taillights are steamed up/damp from the inside with minor or major water droplet concentration. Technical Background Lights with LED technology do not warm the lens as much when switched on as conventional bulb technology does. Therefore less waste heat is created to dry out the lenses. High air humidity and temperature differences between taillights and surrounding area can lead to condensation, mainly in winter or in wet weather. The steaming-up of the taillights can be compared with a steamed-up windshield. This condition can occur particularly after driving through a car wash or temperature changes overnight. With the simultaneous of cooling the lens due to cold fresh air, the smallest amount of humidity immediately condenses on the inside of the taillight lens. On taillight lenses with a clear glass optics this phenomenon is more noticeable than on red transparent taillight lenses. Note: The physical condensation of the taillights is an optical phenomenon which does not affect the function of the taillights. The replacement of the taillight cluster with physical damage related to condensation is not permitted as this is not a technical fault and is not covered by warranty. Technical Service Bulletin 94-22-01 - Taillights Cluster Condensation Transaction No: 2066639/1 Release date: 3/29/2022 The following points have to be checked to prevent an unnecessary replacement of taillights. 1. Taillights: the condensation should systematically dry out after a change of the climate conditions. However, the duration of the drying out process is dependent upon the outside temperature, the general air humidity, and a possible change in the temperature. This condition is normal, no replacement necessary. 2. In case of an obvious water ingress check the tail light cluster for optical faults (seal fit, taillight housing cracks). Note: Upon replacing taillights all documentation and pictures must be uploaded to WISE for warranty reimbursement. See warranty section for more information on uploading information in WISE.
