GROUP ENGINE DATE Technical Service Bulletin MAY 2022 NUMBER 22-EM-008H MODEL ELANTRA (AD) KONA (OS) VELOSTER (JS) DTC P1327 ENGINE REPLACEMENT SUBJECT: Description: Hyundai is conducting a service campaign 974 to enhance the knock sensor logic with the Cylinder Noise Diagnostic System (CNDS) software update. CNDS is to detect abnormal cylinder wall scuffing or noise of the engine block before potentially severe engine damage occurs. If abnormal noise is detected, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will blink continuously. In addition, DTC P1327 will be recorded in the ECM. Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to inspect the vehicle and replace the engine if a DTC P1327 condition exists. For engine replacement, please ensure to follow standard HMA warranty policy and use a new engine long block if vehicle is within ("5/60") and a Reman when beyond 5/60 (if available). APPLICABLE VEHICLES: Certain 2019-20MY Elantra (AD*) vehicles with 2.0L Nu engines produced through 7/6/2020 o *Elantra (AD) vehicles have VINs starting with “KMH”. After installing the engine in the vehicle, fill the engine oil level to the top of “F” position. o (Engine Oil Fill Capacity: 4.5 liters with 5W20 engine oil) TSB #: 22-EM-008H Page 3 of 4 SUBJECT: DTC P1327 ENGINE REPLACEMENT Service Procedure: NOTE: Refer to the Service Process Flowchart on Page 2 for the overview of the process. 1. Check ROM ID and scan for DTCs. Take screenshot of ROM ID and GDS Freeze Frame data if any DTCs are present. If DTC P1327 is present and stored in the ECM, then submit PA for engine replacement. o Follow the published Service Information from the applicable Shop Manual to remove and replace the Engine Assembly. Shop Manual Section Location: Engine Mechanical > Engine And Transaxle Assembly > Engine And Transaxle Assembly > Repair Procedures o Be sure to record the audio station presets (XM, AM, FM, etc.) prior to battery disconnect. o Fill the engine crankcase to the full oil capacity on dipstick and fill the cooling system. o Start the engine to warm it up and begin the cooling system air bleeding process to top off. o After the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperature, turn the engine off, wait a few minutes, and then adjust the engine oil level to near the “F” mark. 2. Check for new ECM Updates. Update the engine ECM if new software is available. Clear any DTC’s and then reset adaptive values with Key On Engine Off (KOEO). TSB #: 22-EM-008H Page 4 of 4
