Condition
Cause
RN2, R88, or Dealer Installed Accessory
Some customers may have one or more of the following concerns:
1.
2.
3.
Drivers Headlight stuck on causing a battery draw
Drivers Headlamp / Turn Signal / High Beam inoperative or ickering
Accessory Illuminated Emblem is inoperative
The cause of these concerns could be water intrusion from GM Accessory
Illuminated Emblem, which connects inline with the Driver's Side Headlight.
Correction:
NOTE: Regardless if the source of the complaint is caused by the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem, it will be
temporarily disabled to prevent a future failure. When a x is released for the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem
this PI will be updated.
Inspect for water intrusion/corrosion in the following areas:
1. At the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem Connection(1), shown below.
2. At the Drivers side headlight connector and the inline GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem Harness (2), shown
below.
3. - If water/corrosion is found, then perform all necessary repairs to the Headlamp connector on the Body
Harness and clean the Headlamp Assembly terminals. Plug the original Headlamp connector from the body
harness back into the headlight assembly. This will eliminate/bypass the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem
Harness. It is NOT necessary to clean/repair the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem or Accessory Harness
connectors as they will be temporarily disabled until a x becomes available. Verify Headlamp operations.
Note: The Headlamp assembly is not currently known to be a source of the water intrusion.
- If NO water/corrosion is found at any of the connectors, then the source of the issue is not the GM Accessory
Illuminated Emblem and normal SI diagnostics will need to be followed. BUT the GM Accessory Illuminated
Emblem will still need to be disabled to prevent any future failures from occurring. Plug the original Headlamp
connector from the body harness back into the headlight assembly. This will eliminate/bypass the GM Accessory
Illuminated Emblem Harness. Verify Headlamp operations.
4. Next, connect the ends of the GM Accessory Illuminated Emblem Harness together (3), as shown below, and
secure them to prevent movement. Please inform the customer that disabling of the Illuminated Emblem is a
temporary solution while Engineering works to develop a permanent solution.
