Introduction
Some 2021 – 2022 model year RAV4 Prime vehicles equipped with a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
may exhibit a BSM outer mirror indicator that stays on without a vehicle in the detection area after
being passed by a vehicle. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
 This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
 Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Area
Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
Does the BSM mirror indicator stay ON without a vehicle in the detection area AFTER being
passed by a vehicle?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Remove the rear bumper.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

2021 / 2022 RAV4 Prime:
Vehicle Exterior – Exterior Panels/Trim – “Exterior Panels / Trim: Rear Bumper: Removal”
3. Install the left and right blind spot
monitor covers.
Left Side Blind Spot Monitor
A. Insert the lower cover guides behind the
bottom of the sensor bracket and
position the cover to align the cover clips
with the bracket holes.

B. Push the cover toward the bracket and fit
the cover clips into the bracket holes.

place securely.

4. Reinstall the rear bumper cover.

NOTE
Some systems may require initialization or calibration AFTER reconnecting the battery terminal.
Follow ALL Repair Manual steps for bumper installation.
5. Test-drive the vehicle and confirm normal BSM operation.
