6/1/22, 9:48 AM 61 01 17_OPTIMIZATION OF HOT STARTING: STARTER MOTOR AND WIRING HARNESS SIB 61 01 17 OPTIMIZATION OF HOT STARTING: STARTER MOTOR AND WIRING HARNESS 2022-05-06 This Service Information Bulletin replaces SI 01/2017 dated December 2017. MODEL Model K48 Model Description K 1600 GT/GTL SITUATION Starter motor turns reluctantly when engine is hot, and starter speed is not reached, in some cases resulting in a no-start condition. An increased engine rotational torque could be the cause when the engine is hot. PROCEDURE After confirming good battery health, convert the motorcycle with the "starter motor additional lead" modification set, incl. starter motor relay, and the new starter motor (part numbers below) according to job item 61 36 015. By installing the starter motor additional lead and the new starter motor relay, the voltage losses from the battery to the starter motor will be reduced. The new starter motor generates a higher starting torque. Note: The starter relay is included in the supplementary wire set and must be replaced.
