Symptom - PSCB brake - Squeaking Noises from Around the Rear Axle: Affix Adhesive Film

Symptom:
Customers complain about squealing from around the rear brakes.
Cause:
Vibrations in the area of the rear brakes, which occur more heavily in the low-load range, can cause
squealing.
Remedial
Action:
In the event of a complaint, affix adhesive film to the back of the rear brake pads.

Preliminary work
Work Procedure: 1
Remove brake pads.
For instructions, see:
 Workshop Manual '463856 Replace rear disc brake pads'
Affixing adhesive film on the rear brake pads
Information
Brake pads that are close to the wear limit must be replaced.

Information
Do not use cleaning agents that can damage the components, e.g. brake cleaner, nitro-dilution or solvent
naphtha.
Work Procedure: 1
Cut out adhesive film using the cut template provided.

Clean the back of the brake pads using a suitable cleaning agent.

Clean the brake calliper close to the sealing surfaces of the brake pad using a suitable cleaning
agent.

Remove protective film from the adhesive film.

Affix adhesive film directly onto the back of the brake pad from the outside in. When doing so, make
sure that no air is encased under the adhesive film and that the adhesive film is affixed fully.
6
Remove the second protective film.

Press the brake medium-strength five times with the engine running.

The procedure to assemble a tape to pad & shim assy, and the pad & shim & tape assy
assembling to caliper assy:
Brake caliper
1. Cut out the adhesive foil according to the cutting template.
1-1. On the clip-on side surface of pad & shim assy, it is necessary to remove dust and
oil using suitable materials.*
1-2. On the piston surface of caliper assy, it is necessary to remove dust and
oil using suitable materials.*
2. Remove the release liner without touching the adhesive surface.
3. Place the tape from outerside to innerside directly on the clip-on.
Don't let air go between the tape and the clip-on.
Make sure that the entire surface of the tape is attached.
4. Remove the 2nd release liner.
5. Assemble pad & shim & tape assy to caliper assy.
6. Apply the brake with running engine for 5 times with 20 bar brake pressure
(medium strong).
7. End.

* For example, a damp cloth. Do not use products that could damage the rubber parts,
such as nitro thinner, petrol and brake cleaner.
