Noise In Front Of Vehicle When Accelerating Or Decelerating
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing both front half shafts.
MODELS:
2015 - 2017 (BU)
Jeep Renegade
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries:
EMEA.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before December 14, 2016 (MDH
1214XX) equipped with 2.0L I4 Turbo Diesel Engine (Sales Code EBT) with a
9-SPD 948TE Automatic Transmission (Sales Code DFH).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe a “clunk type” noise in front of the vehicle while accelerating or
decelerating.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Verify the noise is coming from the front half shafts. Refer to the detailed service
procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 03 Differential and Driveline/Half Shaft, Front/Diagnosis and Testing.
2. If the noise is coming from either of the front half shafts:
a. Replace both half shafts. Proceed to Step #1 in the repair procedure.
3. If the noise is not coming from one or both front half shafts:
a. This Bulletin does not apply. Normal diagnosis should be performed.
If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair
Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: The axle hub nut, lower ball joint stud nut and bolt are not reusable and must
be replaced.
1. Remove both front half shafts. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 03 - Differential and
Driveline> Half Shaft, Front> Removal/Installation.
