In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this campaign it will be necessary to verify the vehicle VIN in AIR (Aftersales Information Research). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the repair or take no further action. Please note, open campaigns or vehicle stops may not appear in DCS Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or sales systems until 24-72 hours after they are announced, therefore AIR is always the recommended method for determining open campaigns and vehicle stops. SITUATION At continuous rotational speeds exceeding 10,000 rpm, the spring inside the timing chain tensioner may break. The broken pieces can migrate into the oil sump and may then reach the camshaft bearings, resulting in damage to the valve gear. PROCEDURE For vehicles that have not yet been delivered, the service campaign must be carried out prior to delivery. The chain tensioner is to be replaced with a revised timing chain tensioner without internal spring. The updated timing chain tensioners are temporarily marked with a yellow paint dot. At a later stage, following the adaptation of the tools, the new part number will be embossed in the housing. The description of the necessary steps for replacing the timing chain tensioner is available in the current Repair and Service Data (AIR). Observe the updated tightening torque for timing chain tensioner! New: 55 Nm, Previously: 42 Nm The tightening torque has been updated in the repair instructions with AIR Release 06/2022.
