Condition
Some customers may comment on a malfunction indicator lamp illuminated. During
diagnosis some technicians may find DTC P0451 (Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
Performance) set in the ECM.
Cause
Liquid fuel can enter vapor lines following a customer fuel overfill. If a customer goes
beyond three clicks at the fuel station fill, liquid fuel could enter the vapor line through the
recirculation line. The liquid fuel can block the line and cause issues with the fuel tank
pressor sensor readings.
Correction
Technicians should inspect the vent lines at the fuel tank for any exterior damage and
drain any liquid fuel and/or contamination from the evap vent lines and then clear
the DTC.
It will also be necessary to educate the three-click fuel fill procedure with the customer.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these
technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper
service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a
job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your
vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the
information.
