Bulletin No.: PIT5888B Published date: 10/26/2022 Preliminary Information PIT5888B Air Leveling Suspension Is Low After An Overnight Soak In Very Cold Temperatures Product Investigation Review Required Models Brand: Model: Model Years: VIN: from to Engine: Transmissions: Cadillac Escalade Models 2021 - 2022 SOP December 1, 2021 All All Chevrolet Suburban 2021 - 2022 SOP December 1, 2021 All All Chevrolet Tahoe 2021 - 2022 SOP December 1, 2021 All All GMC Yukon Models 2021 - 2022 SOP December 1, 2021 All All Involved Region or Country North America Additional Options (RPO) Condition F47 - Air Leveling Suspension Some customers may report that following an overnight cold soak, in temperatures below 0 Degs F (-15 Degs C), that the front air springs have leaked down resulting in severe suspension sag. A "Service Air Leveling System" message may be present on the driver information center (DIC) accompanied with DTC C118B and/or C118C. Note: This condition is not known to manifest itself in ambient temperatures warmer than 0 Degs F or -15 Degs C. Cause Air spring to upper mount crimp ring. Correction: Note: Do not drive the vehicle if the air springs have no pressure as this can damage them to the point that they will require replacement. - Perform normal air leak diagnostics and verify all air line connections are fully seated. Repair any leaks that are found and reevaluate. - If no root cause is found, engineering has found air may leak around the area of the upper air spring to upper mount crimp, which only occurs in very cold temperatures. To correct this concern, replace both front air springs. Follow SI "Shock Absorber, Shock Absorber Component, or Spring Replacement - (F47)" for the air spring replacement procedure. During this repair, the air spring seals must be replaced and the seals come as a kit (1), shown below. The seal kit will contain seals for the air spring itself and two additional o-rings (4) that are used for the shock spring seat (3), see below. These two additional o-rings should also be replaced during the air spring replacement. After the new air spring and seal kit is installed, use the CH-52667 Air Spring In ator to ll the air spring to 4 bar (60 psi), before installing the assembly on the vehicle. It is very important to make sure the air spring has in ated correctly. The easiest way to verify this is with the corrugated boot removed visually inspect the lower portion of the air spring to make sure it is uniform all the way around (5), as shown below. If the spring did not ll correctly it will need to be de ated and then re in ated. To aid in proper in ation make sure the air spring assembly is held vertically and fully extended while in ating the air spring.
