TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10R80 MHT - Rattle Noise From The Transmission Area After Cold Start In Freezing Temperatures - Built On Or Before 13-Oct-2022 22-2483 12 December 2022 Model: Ford 2021-2022 F-150 Transmission/Transaxle: 10R80 MHT Built on or before 13-Oct-2022 Issue: Some 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 10R80 MHT transmission and built on or before 13-Oct2022 may exhibit a rattle noise from the transmission area after a cold start in freezing temperatures. The noise typically goes away as the powertrain warms up. To improve the cold start noise condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM). Action: Follow the Service Procedure to improve the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria: • 2021-2022 F-150 • Built on or before 13-Oct-2022 • 10R80 MHT transmission • Rattle noise from the transmission area after a cold start in freezing temperatures Warranty Status: Eligible under provisions of New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW)/Service Part Warranty (SPW)/Special Service Part (SSP)/Extended Service Plan (ESP) coverage. Limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. NVLW/SPW/SSP/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool. Repair/Claim Coding Causal Part: RECAL Condition Code: 04 Service Procedure 1. Using the latest version of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS), reprogram the PCM to the latest software. NOTE: Some level of noise from the transmission area remaining after performing the software update is considered a characteristic of the 10R80 MHT transmission and has no affect on function or durability. NOTE: Advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process.
