Condition
Customer states:
• Occasionally when at or near a stop the driver finds the transmission has selected Park or Neutral on its own.
Workshop findings:
• No relevant DTCs are stored.
• The concern is intermittent.
• The ignition remains on.
• With the brakes applied the driver can select Drive or Reverse and continue driving.
Technical Background
• Due to a software error the engine control unit receives a message that requires it to command the
transmission into “Park” or “Neutral”.
• The concern only happens below 3 mph.
• The concern can happen if the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse.
• The concern is only known with the following software combination:
• Engine Control Module (ECM), J623 (address word 0001): 9J1907558E__0020 (Figure 1).

• If the above concern has been confirmed check for open Campaigns and Service Actions.
• The software improvement for this concern is included in the Service Action 93P9.
• Perform all open Campaigns and Service Actions in the order that they were released.
