THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT 15.02 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE. SUBJECT: Flash: Transmission Shift And Drivability Enhancements OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves reprogramming the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with the latest available software. MODELS: 2015 (LA) Dodge Challenger NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles on or after July 21, 2014 (MDH 0721XX) and on or before January 9, 2015 (MDH 0109XX) equipped with the following options: • 6.2L engine (sales code ESD) and equipped with an 8HP90 transmission (sales code DFE). • 6.4L engine (sales code ESG) and equipped with an 8HP70 transmission (sales code DFK). SYMPTOM/CONDITION: A small number of customers may experience one or more of the following concerns. These concerns are broken up per engine and transmission combination. 6.2L engine (sales code ESD) equipped with an 8HP90 transmission (sales code DFE) • • • • • • Transmission will not upshift during Wide Open Throttle (WOT) acceleration. Harsh or inconsistent coasting downshifts. Transmission will not shift into 7th gear during high speed driving. Inconsistent or busy shifts during stop and go traffic. Inconsistent gear shift patterns when driving on grades. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illumination during ABS activated stops with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1DCD TCM Monitoring Processor Performance, Multiple Clutches Locked Up. 21-009-15 -2- 6.4L engine (sales code ESG) and equipped with an 8HP70 transmission (sales code DFK) • • • • • • • • Harsh or inconsistent 1-2 upshift. Harsh of inconsistent coasting 4-3 downshift. Harsh or inconsistent gear engagement when shifting to drive or reverse. Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) shows the incorrect gear when in manual mode. Harsh of inconsistent shifts during tip-in acceleration from closed throttle. Inconsistent gear shift patterns when driving on grades. Inconsistent release of Hill Start Assist during tip-in acceleration. Transmission upshifts on sweeping curves under track driving conditions. DIAGNOSIS: Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all vehicle systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the Repair Procedure. REPAIR PROCEDURE: NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process. NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted. 1. Reprogram the TCM with the latest available software. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the “HELP” tab on the upper portion of the wiTECH window, then “HELP CONTENTS.” This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected. 2. Clear any DTCs that may have been set in any modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them. NOTE: Do not clear the adaptation memory cells in the TCM’s memory. Clearing the memory cells may cause the transmission to not shift smoothly until they can be fully relearned. -3- 21-009-15 POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
