STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION Case Number: S1808000284 Release Date: 7/17/2020 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Power Mirrors And Door Locks Do Not Function. Blind Spot Alert Temporarily Unavailable Is Displayed On The EVIC Discussion: The customer may complain that “Blind Spot Alert Temporarily Unavailable” is displayed on the EVIC when starting the vehicle. The customer may also notice the power door locks and/or power mirrors are inoperable. This publication is intended to give you a basic understanding of how the doors are monitored and known failures that may cause customer concerns. This document does not authorize warranty repairs. This communication documents a record of past experiences. STAR Online does not provide any conclusions about what is wrong with the vehicle. Rather, it captures all previous cases known that appear to be similar or related to the vehicle symptom / condition. You are the expert, and you are responsible for deciding on the appropriate course of action. Contact STAR Center, or your Technical Assistance Center Via TechCONNECT or eCONTACT ticket if no solution is found FCA US LLC Version 4.2 02/06/2017 STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION System Overview: On Jeep Wrangler, the doors are designed to be removed by the customer. This unique feature requires unconventional operation of the doors electrical systems. The JL/JT has a variety of new components located in the door compared to the outgoing JK platform. This includes the Blind Spot Mirrors, Passive Entry System Handles, and a Power Mirror Switch. Because of the additional components, the BCM continuously monitors if the doors are Open, Closed, or Removed from the vehicle. If the BCM believes the doors have been removed, the Blind Spot System is disabled. This is because the Blind Spot Mirrors, which are integrated into the door and are a primary component in the system, have been removed. The “Blind Spot Alert Temporarily Unavailable” is then displayed to the customer. Additionally the Power Mirror Switch, which on JL is powered by an independent relay in the PDC. Is switched off by the BCM when the door is removed. BCM Door Monitoring: The BCM monitors both front door Ajar Switch Sense circuits to determine the state of the doors and if the aforementioned systems should be enabled/disabled. The Ajar Switch uses two internal resistors to manipulate the voltage based on the door latches position. In WiTech 2 under the BCM Data tab, the circuits monitored are displayed as “(Door Location) Analog Door Ajar Switch Voltage”. Door Closed: 8 V (Switch Open) Door Open: 4 V (Switch Closed) Door Removed: B+ V (Open Circuit) Note: These voltages are relative to battery system voltage. Your actual readings for each position may vary slightly. This document does not authorize warranty repairs. This communication documents a record of past experiences. Monitor the Analog Door Ajar Switch Voltage in Witech 2 and compare them with the voltage readings listed above. If either of the front door ajar sense voltages display B+ voltage. The BCM believes that door has been removed from the vehicle. Begin by verifying all of the inline door connectors are fully connected and locked. It is advised to inspect the Drivers XY600A and Passengers XY650A inline door connectors for pushed out or damaged pin/terminals. Damage has been found on pin/terminals 17(Lock Switch Return) and 18(Door Ajar Switch Sense) of the drivers and passengers inline door connectors. Bent Pins XY600A and XY650A Note: It is VERY common for the customer to damages pins and terminals when removing and installing the doors. This document does not authorize warranty repairs. Any open in the door ajar switch circuits will cause the BCM to disable the systems incorporated into the door. This fault will not set a DTC. This document does not authorize warranty repairs.
