Case Number: S2218000023 Release Date: December 2022 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U02A3 – Lost Communication With Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor, Set After PM Sensor Replacement. Customer Complaint: The technician may encounter a MIL Illumination with DTC U02A3 set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory after installing a new PM sensor. The PM sensor may have been replaced for another issue not related to the U02A3 DTC. The cause of the concern may be due to an incorrect variant PM sensor installed on the vehicle during the repair. If the technician encounters the issue, please perform the following repair procedure. Repair Procedure: 1. Gain access to the PM sensor module. For detailed repair procedures, refer to Service Library Service Information Section 11 – Exhaust System > Sensor, Particulate Matter > Removal and Installation. NOTE: It may not be necessary to completely remove the sensor to gain access to the part number. 2. Record the part number stamped on the PM sensor module. Refer to (Table 1), was the sensor that was ordered/installed one of the following part numbers, or does the PM sensor module have one of the part numbers stamped on it, based on vehicle application? a. Yes>>> Proceed to (Step 4). b. No>>> This document no longer applies. Please follow normal published diagnostics for the concern and repair as necessary. Refer to (Table 2) and replace the PM sensor using the correct part number listed for the vehicle application.
