Condition
Cause
"Service Transmission Unable to shift soon" message displayed
This may be caused by a broken or damaged park pawl actuator piston servo
Correction:
Some Technicians may nd shortly following a valve body replacement or removal, on a vehicle equipped with
ETRS, the "Service Transmission Unable to shift soon" Message may be displayed on the DIC.
When this happens, it is possible that there will be no DTC’S set when checking for DTC’S using Techline
Connect/GDS2.
This can happen due to the DTC’S being cleared following the replacement of the valve body and the subsequent
MCVM learn and DTC clear being performed as part of the repair procedure.
Due to the nature of this concern, the DTC’S are cleared, and the vehicle is not powered down correctly on the
initial clear, it is possible for the vehicle to enter “Latent Fault Mode”.
When this happens, the DTC’S will not initially reset and can take up to between 50 to 100 “trip cycles” with the
fault present for the DTC to return.
In rare cases the vehicle may come into the dealer with this message displayed and no DTC’S currently set, if this
is encountered Global Warranty Management should be consulted to determine if any transmission repairs have
recently been performed. Also, it may be necessary to speak with the customer to determine if repairs have been
completed that may not have had time to show up on Global Warranty Management.
If this is encountered, and the valve body was removed or replaced for service, the technician should remove the
valve body, and the park pawl actuator servo should be inspected.
If damage to the servo is seen (Example in the picture below) The valve body will need to be replaced as the park
pawl actuator servo is not serviced separately.
Note: Care should be taken when installing the valve body to follow proper SI procedure and verify the Park Pawl
Actuator Lever (Item 1) is in the proper position and that the Park Pawl Piston Servo (Item 2) on the valve body
(Whether new part or original removed part) is in the correct location per the appropriate SI procedure
