Edition 87: May 26, 2014 Content • PDI – Additional Spring (bump stop) Installation • Technical Bulletins • Pending Service Solutions • Campaigns • Updates • Suggestions PDI – Additional Spring (bump stop) Installation There has been a recent update to information in ELSAPro regarding the removal of the transportation protection blocks and installation of the bump stops that we would like to bring to your attention. You can view the latest procedure in ELSAPro under Maintenance > Transport protection, remove front and rear strut transportation protection devices. It is critical that the bump stops are fully seated during the PDI process and prior to customer delivery. If this step is not completed correctly, there is a good potential that the vehicle will return for a repair. Auxiliary Strut, Installing Special Tools and Workshop Equipment Required • Assembly Paste -G 052 109 A2- • Clean the loose auxiliary strut upper edge of rough deposits and coat with assembly paste G 052 109 A2. • Push the auxiliary strut by hand securely in the shock absorber mount. Back to top Technical Bulletins 87 Uncomfortable passenger compartment temperature (2037213/1) Model(s) Year Vehicle Specific Equipment A6, A7 2014 Not Applicable Condition: • The customer may report that after a specific temperature is selected in AUTO mode, the resulting airflow and temperature are uncomfortable. • DTCs for mechanical malfunction of one or more air distribution control motors may be stored in the air conditioning/heating control unit, J255 (address word 08). Production Solution: The sensitivity of the passenger compartment has been optimized. New software in the air conditioning/heating control unit, J255 (and in the rear air conditioning/heating control unit, J265, if equipped) addresses the condition. 44 Steering wheel shimmy, vibration, and/or oscillation (2022563/10) Model(s) Year Vehicle Specific Equipment All 2008–2013 Not Applicable A5, A5 Cabriolet, A6, A7, A8, TT, Q5, Q7, R8 2014 Not Applicable Condition: Customer feels vibration in the seat, vehicle floor, footwell, pedals, or steering wheel. This condition does not lead to any handling concerns or loss of vehicle control. The customer feels the vibration while driving at highway speeds from 55 – 80 mph (88 – 128 km/h). • • Production Solution: Not applicable. 37 Transmission faults stored (DTC P1703 or U1111) (2025535/2) Model(s) Year Vehicle Specific Equipment A4, A5, A5 Cabriolet, Q5, A8 2010– 2012 0BK 8 speed Transmission Condition: • There is no customer complaint with this concern. • The following DTCs may be stored: o DTC P1703 (Limp home, control unit reset) in the transmission control module (TCM), J217 (address word 02). o DTC U1111 (Function limitation due to missing message) in the selector lever sensor system control module, J587 (address word 81). Production Solution: New software in the TCM addressed the condition. 37 Gearbox warning light on (DTC P060B00 stored in TCM) (2028405/2) Model(s) Year A4, A5, A5 Cabriolet, 2011–2012 Q5 Vehicle Specific Equipment OBK Transmission Condition: Customer may report that the transmission warning light is on. • DTC P060B00 (2528) (Internal Control Module A/D Processing Performance) is stored in the transmission control module (TCM), J217 (address word 02). • Production Solution: Not applicable. 37 Rough downshifts when vehicle is slowed to a stop (2036278/2) Model(s) Year Vehicle Specific Equipment A8 2013 3.0T-FSI engine / 0BK transmission Condition: • • Rough downshifts when the vehicle is slowed to a stop. No DTCs are stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623, or in the transmission control module (TCM), J217. VIN Range From Code Code VIN Range To See See A6, A7, 2014 None None Campaign/Action Campaign/Action A8, Q5 screen in Elsa screen in Elsa This Update has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle: Some vehicles may experience a limp home mode condition due to DPF soot accumulation which could cause the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) to come on. This Update is in effect until removed. Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria: Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 23M6 code in the Elsa Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair. • Vehicle must be within the Federal Emissions. • Procedure must be performed within the allotted time • • frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
