Complaint — ‘Tire Type 21" All Season’ Cannot be Selected in the Instrument Cluster:
Re-Coding the Instrument Cluster (16/23)
Model Line:
Macan (95B)
Model Year:
As of 2022
Concerns:
Instrument cluster
Cause:
In the instrument cluster, the factory-installed 21" all-season tires cannot be selected. Initially, however,
the tires were actively selected at the factory. After selecting another type of tire available in the
instrument cluster, the 21" all-season tires are no longer available and can no longer be selected.
Action:
To enable the selection of the 21-inch all-season tires in the instrument cluster, the instrument cluster
must be re-coded with the latest PIWIS Tester software version.
Information
The minimum requirement for coding is the PIWIS Tester software version 41.700.020.
Required tools
Tool:
•
•
9900 - PIWIS Tester 3/ 4
Battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A, e.g. VAS 5908 - battery charger 90A.
For further information about the battery chargers to be used, see the corresponding Workshop Manual.

Re-coding the instrument cluster
NOTICE
Fault entry in the fault memory and/or control unit coding aborted due to low voltage.
•
Increased power consumption during diagnosis can cause a drop in voltage, which can result in one or
more fault entries and abortion of the diagnostic process.

Before starting control unit diagnosis, connect a suitable battery charger with a current rating of at least
90 A to the vehicle.
NOTICE
Control unit coding will be aborted if the WiFi connection is unstable.
•
An unstable Wi-Fi connection can interrupt communication between PIWIS Tester II and the vehicle
communication module (VCI). As a result, control unit coding may be aborted.

Technical Information
16/23
During control unit diagnosis, always connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle communication module (VCI)
via the USB cable.
NOTICE
Control unit coding will be aborted if the driver's key is not recognized
•
If the driver's key is not recognized in the vehicle, coding cannot be started or will be interrupted.

Place the driver's key with the back facing down in the area in front of the storage compartment under
the armrest (emergency start tray) in order to guarantee a permanent radio link between the vehicle and
driver's key.
NOTICE
Use of a PIWIS Tester software version that is older than the prescribed version.
•
Measure is ineffective

Always use the specified version or a higher version of the PIWIS Tester software for control unit coding.
Information
The procedure described here is based on the PIWIS Tester software version 41.700.020.
The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the
instructions that must be followed.
Deviations may occur with later software versions, for example.
Work Procedure: 1
Re-coding instrument cluster.
Specific information on control unit coding within the scope of this measure
Required PIWIS Tester software version:
41.700.020 (or higher)
Type of control unit coding:

Read and follow the information and instructions
on the PIWIS Tester during the guided coding
sequence.
Coding sequence:
Do not interrupt coding.
When coding is complete, the message ‘Coding has
been completed successfully’ is displayed and a tick
appears in the “Status” box.
Procedure if control unit coding is not
successful:
2
Repeat control unit coding.
After completing the coding process, check whether the 21” all-season tires installed ex works can
now be selected in the instrument cluster.
2.1
Select ‘Tire pressure’ in the instrument cluster and confirm.
2.2
Then select ‘Tire type’ and confirm.
2.3
Under ‘Tire Type’, the 21" all-season tires should now be available for selection.
If the 21” all-season tires are not available, repeat the control unit coding and then check
the selection again in the instrument cluster.
