Technical Service Bulletin 26 Exhaust manifold heat shield, noises from engine compartment - 5.2 ltr. V10 FSI 26 23 50 2070152/1 April 27, 2023. Model(s) Year VIN Range Vehicle-Specific Equipment R8, and R8 Spyder 2016 – 2023 All Not Applicable Condition Customer states: • Whirring/ringing noises when accelerating at engine RPM between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Workshop findings: • Noise complaint can be duplicated and sounds like a whirring/ringing noise produced by a metal panel. Technical Background Due to tight component tolerances, vibrations may occur under specific loads and engine RPM ranges and result in minimal contact between the exhaust manifold heat shields and the exhaust manifolds. Production Solution Not Applicable Service If the customer complaint is similar to the noise which can be heard after 12-13 seconds in example video 1, please check the manifold heat shields on bank 1 and bank 2 in accordance with example videos 2 (OK) and 3 (not OK). Technical Service Bulletin Figure 1: This video demonstrates the noise that a customer may report, which can be heard 12-13 seconds into the video. Figure 2: This video demonstrates the sound that is produced by the heat shield when checking for proper fit. Figure 3: This video demonstrates the noise that is produced by the heat shield when there is not enough clearance. You may access all three videos here: https://audi-external.kzoplatform.com/containers/2464810158010668389 If there is a similar noise issue with the heat shields, the affected heat shield must be adjusted (while still installed) to allow for greater clearance between the heatshield and the exhaust manifold.
