SUBJECT:
 IMPORTANT
Dealers must perform this service campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail
delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
Access the “Vehicle Information” screen via WEBDCS to identify open campaigns.
DESCRIPTION: This bulletin provides information related to the HCU software upgrade to resolve
the following symptoms:
• Possibility that the engine cannot run due to poor immobilizer function (although driving with
electric motor is possible)
• HCU function setting error
APPLICABLE VEHICLES: Certain 21-22MY Santa Fe Hybrid (TM HEV) equipped with 1.6L Gamma
II turbocharged engines produced from 12/18/2020 – 09/19/2022

NOTE 2: If a part that is not covered by this campaign is found in need of replacement
while performing the service campaign and the affected part is still under warranty, submit
a separate claim using the same repair order. If the affected part is out of warranty,
submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration prior to the repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
NOTICE
To verify the vehicle is affected, be sure to check the version of the vehicle’s HCU
ROM ID with reference to the HCU ROM ID TABLE below before attempting to upgrade
the control unit software.
You must attach a 12V battery charger to the vehicle before performing GDS HCU
Update. This is to prevent a battery saver condition from occurring since Santa Fe
Hybrid uses a smaller battery.
You must initially perform GDS HCU Update in Auto Mode.
• If the HCU Update starts but then fails in Auto Mode, disconnect the battery cables and
