SUBJECT: TESTING 12V BATTERY WITH MIDTRONICS CPX-930 DURING PDI NO: TSB-23-54-003 DATE: April 2023 MODEL: 2022-2023 Outlander CIRCULATE TO: [ ] GENERAL MANAGER [ X ] PARTS MANAGER [ X ] TECHNICIAN [ X ] SERVICE ADVISOR [ X ] SERVICE MANAGER [ X ] WARRANTY PROCESSOR [ ] SALES MANAGER PURPOSE This bulletin provides instructions on how to determine if the 12V battery requires replacement during the Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) using Midtronics CPX-930. BACKGROUND On occasion the Midtronics CPX-930 Battery Tester may incorrectly recommend replacement of the 12V battery even though the battery has not degraded and is functioning properly. The negative terminal of the 12V battery on Outlander has limited areas where the battery tester can be clamped correctly. Depending upon the clamping position, the resistance value of the terminal may increase. As a result the resistance value may measure lower than the actual value incorrectly suggesting battery replacement. AFFECTED VEHICLES All 2022-2023 Outlander (U.S. only - does not include Puerto Rico and Canada) PROCEDURE Clamping the negative terminal on the nut or screw will give a lower CCA value than the actual value because the nut and screw have higher electrical resistance. Therefore, be sure to clamp the negative terminal as shown (far right image below). Based upon results: • • • • Good Battery: Good Recharge: Charge & Retest: Replace Battery: Finished Finished (recharge the battery if necessary) Go to Step 2 Go to Step 2 Step 2: Remove the negative terminal and test the 12V battery. Based upon results: • • • • Good Battery: Good Recharge: Charge & Retest: Replace Battery: Finished, reinstall negative terminal (submit warranty claim for 0.2 hrs) Finished, reinstall negative terminal (submit warranty claim for 0.2 hrs) Recharge and perform Step 2 again Replace 12V battery (submit warranty claim for 0.6 hours) Refer to the flow chart and Midtronics CPX-930 screenshots below to accurately test the battery. 4/21/2023 2 of 11 (5293/TSL2304010) Battery Test Flowchart □ Check 12V Battery at PDI STEP 1: Check the 12V Battery using Midtronics CPX-930 Recharge STEP 2: Remove negative terminal and check 12V battery Finished Finished ※Recharge if necessary Replace the battery with a new one ※Operation code:543010LC 4/21/2023 Re-install the negative terminal and recharge if necessary ※Operation code:543010LB 3 of 11 (5293/TSL2304010) Battery Test with Midtronics CPX-930: 1.
