PURPOSE
This bulletin provides instructions on how to determine if the 12V battery requires replacement
during the Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) using Midtronics CPX-930.
BACKGROUND
On occasion the Midtronics CPX-930 Battery Tester may incorrectly recommend replacement
of the 12V battery even though the battery has not degraded and is functioning properly. The
negative terminal of the 12V battery on Outlander has limited areas where the battery tester
can be clamped correctly. Depending upon the clamping position, the resistance value of the
terminal may increase. As a result the resistance value may measure lower than the actual
value incorrectly suggesting battery replacement.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
All 2022-2023 Outlander (U.S. only - does not include Puerto Rico and Canada)
PROCEDURE
Clamping the negative terminal on the nut or screw will give a lower CCA value than the actual
value because the nut and screw have higher electrical resistance. Therefore, be sure to clamp
the negative terminal as shown (far right image below).
