Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:
• Service Safety Restraint Message displayed on the DIC
• Airbag malfunction indicator illuminated
During diagnosis, a technician may find DTC B0001-1B and/or B0002-1B set or B0012OD and/or B0013-OD set (depends on the vehicle model).
Cause

Cause of condition may be rust particles, or other contaminants trapped within
connection terminal interface causing excessive resistance seen in the airbag loops.
Correction
In order to correct the condition, the following steps in the Service Procedure below must
be followed to ensure proper root cause.
Important: Service agents must comply with all
International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or
Local laws applicable to the activities it performs
under this bulletin, including but not limited to
handling, deploying, preparing, classifying,
packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping
dangerous goods. In the event of a conflict between
the procedures set forth in this bulletin and the
laws that apply to your dealership, you must follow
those applicable laws.
Service Procedure
1. Use a MDI tool and plug it into the (ADL) to show a
profile of the resistances.

2. Move the airbag cover both up and down, as well
as left to right, to confirm if resistance spikes are
observed:
– If resistance spikes are seen. Replace the
steering wheel airbag and steering wheel
harness. Refer to Steering Wheel Airbag
Replacement in SI.
– If resistance spikes are not seen (resistance is
stable).
• Move to Step 3.
3. Rotate steering wheel from lock to lock position to
confirm if resistance spikes are observed:
– A) — First time around, if resistance spikes
occur, Pull airbag out and ensure all connections
are fully seated and CPA is engaged. (i.e. Airbag
connectors and yellow clock-spring connector)
– If all connectors are not fully seated, re-seat
connectors and repeat beginning of step 3 and
skip 3A.
– B) — Disconnect and reconnect the airbag, then
repeat lock to lock steering wheel rotation test.
– If resistance spikes go away (resistance is
stable), replace airbag and steering wheel
harness.
Parts Information
Use the VIN and refer to the GM Electronic Parts
Catalog (EPC) to determine the proper part number to
order.
