Technical Service Bulletin
Workshop findings:
• In some cases the rear spoiler is not operative either automatically or manually. In some cases the rear
spoiler system is fully operative.
One or both of the following DTC(s) may be stored in the aerodynamic control module, J223 (address word
006B):
• DTC B18AC13 (Motor for rear spoiler drive 1, Open circuit).
• DTC B16F8F1 (Rear spoiler drive 1, Blocking when extending).
Technical Background
Due to insufficient pressure of the carbon brushes to the motor commutator in the spoiler drive motor a loss of
contact may occur and cause intermittent or permanent loss of spoiler operation.
Figure 2 shows the spoiler drive motor area of
brush to commutator contact.
Figure 2. Cutaway view of the motor brush to commutator
area.
Production Solution
The rear spoiler drive motor has been redesigned. An increase in brush to commutator pressure has been
implemented in production.
