BODY 23-BD-014G AUGUST 2023 G80 (RG3) PANORAMIC SUNROOF NOISE REPAIR Description: This bulletin provides instructions on how to service the panoramic sunroof on certain G80 (RG3) vehicles that experience creaking or rattling noises while driving on uneven roads. NOTE 2: Submit claim on Claim Entry Screen as “Warranty” type. NOTE 3: This TSB includes Repair validation photos. Op times including VIN, Mileage, and Repair validation photos as outlined in the Digital Documentation Policy. NOTE 4: The incident parts are subject to callback through the normal Warranty Technical Center (WTC) parts return process. Claim is subject to debit if the part is not returned. NOTE 5: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this TSB and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same repair order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work. TSB #: 23-BD-014G Page 2 of 12 SUBJECT: Service Procedure: STUI This TSB includes Repair validation photos. Refer to the latest Digital Documentation Policy for requirements. Assembly Kit – Type A (Vehicles produced before 3/3/2021) 1. Disconnect the negative (–) battery terminal (A). Tightening Torque: 2. lb-ft 6.5 lb-in 78 N.m 9 A Lower the head lining (B) and place it over the front seats. Refer to the shop manual: • Body (Interior and Exterior) > Roof Trim > Roof Trim Assembly > Repair procedures NOTICE It is not necessary to remove the head lining from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage or crease the head lining. TSB #: 23-BD-014G B Page 3 of 12 SUBJECT: 3. Remove the 8 lower bolts of the front roller blind support bracket (C). Front roller blind support bracket Tightening Torque: 4. lb-ft 5.9 lb-in 71 N.m 8 C Attach the Teflon tape to the 4 bolt holes of the front roller blind support bracket as shown on the right. Front roller blind support bracket STUI Using STUI, take a photo of the support bracket with the Teflon tape attached and the last 6 digits of the VIN and date of repair on a piece of paper. Upload the photo to STUI. Example STUI photo 5. Reinstall the front roller blind support bracket. i 12mm length bolts (4) Information Use the new bolts when reinstalling the front roller blind support bracket. Do not reuse the previous bolts. 6. Remove the 8 lower bolts of the rear roller blind support bracket (D). 5.9 lb-in 71 N.m 8 Rear roller blind support bracket D Tightening Torque: lb-ft 10mm length bolts (4) TSB #: 23-BD-014G Page 4 of 12 SUBJECT: 7. Attach the Teflon tape to the 4 bolt holes of the rear roller blind support bracket as shown on the right. Rear roller blind support bracket STUI Using STUI, take a photo of the support bracket with the Teflon tape attached and the last 6 digits of the VIN and date of repair on a piece of paper. Upload the photo to STUI. Example STUI photo 8. Reinstall the rear roller blind support bracket. i 12mm length bolts (4) Information Use the new bolts when reinstalling the rear roller blind support bracket. Do not reuse the previous bolts. 10mm length bolts (4) 9. Reinstall all components in the reverse order of removal. i Information Before reinstalling the head lining, replace any damaged head lining clips and add new foam tape underneath all clips. This will reduce the possibility of noise from the head lining, which could be misinterpreted as originating from the sunroof. 10. Verify that the panoramic sunroof operates normally (open, close, and tilt). TSB #: 23-BD-014G Page 5 of 12 SUBJECT: Assembly Kit – Type B (Vehicles produced on or after 3/3/2021) 1. Remove the panoramic sunroof movable glass (A). Refer to the Shop Manual: • Body (Interior and Exterior) > Panorama Sunroof > Movable Glass > Repair procedures NOTICE A Place the movable glass on a workbench with a soft surface to prevent damage. 2. Disconnect the negative (–) battery terminal (B). Tightening Torque: 3. lb-ft 6.5 lb-in 78 N.m 9 B Remove the head lining (C) and place it over the front seats. Refer to the shop manual: • Body (Interior and Exterior) > Roof Trim > Roof Trim Assembly > Repair procedures NOTICE It is not necessary to remove the head lining from the vehicle. Front roller blind support bracket bolts (4) Tightening Torque: 5. lb-ft 5.9 lb-in 71 N.m 8 Remove the 4 lower bolts of the rear roller blind support bracket. Rear roller blind support bracket bolts (4) Tightening Torque: 6. 7. lb-ft 5.9 lb-in 71 N.m 8 Remove the panoramic sunroof movable glass motor (D). Remove the roller blind motor (E). D E TSB #: 23-BD-014G Page 7 of 12 SUBJECT: 8. Remove the curtain airbag (CAB) (F) on both sides. F Refer to the shop manual: • Restraint > Airbag Module > Curtain Airbag (CAB) Module > Repair procedures 9. 10. Remove the curtain airbag (CAB) mounting bracket (G) on both sides. G Remove the upper bolts (H) of the sunroof mechanism rail assembly. H NOTICE Be careful not to damage the Torx bolts as they will be reused. TSB #: 23-BD-014G H Page 8 of 12 SUBJECT: 11. Remove the lower mounting bolts and nuts of the sunroof mechanism rail assembly (I). I NOTICE Be careful not to damage the Torx bolts and nuts as they will be reused. Tightening Torque (nuts): lb-ft 2.9 lb-in 35 N.m 4 Tightening Torque (Torx bolts): 12. lb-ft 5.1 lb-in 61 N.m 7 Remove the sunroof mechanism rail assembly (I) from the vehicle by lifting it through the sunroof. I TSB #: 23-BD-014G Page 9 of 12 SUBJECT: 13. Remove the upper bolts (J) of both roller blind support brackets. Tightening Torque: lb-ft 5.9 J J 14. lb-in 71 N.m 8 Attach the Teflon tape to the 8 bolt holes of both roller blind support brackets as shown on the right. Front roller blind support bracket Rear roller blind support bracket STUI Using STUI, take a photo of the support brackets with the Teflon tape attached and the last 6 digits of the VIN and date of repair on a piece of paper. Reinstall both roller blind support brackets onto the sunroof mechanism rail assembly. i 15mm length bolts (4) Information Use the new bolts when reinstalling both roller blind support brackets. DO NOT reuse the previous bolts. 15mm length bolts (4) 16. Reinstall all components in the reverse order of removal. i Front roller blind support bracket – 10mm bolts (4) Information Use the new bolts when reinstalling both roller blind support brackets. DO NOT reuse the previous bolts. i Information Before reinstalling the head lining, replace any damaged head lining clips and add new foam tape underneath all clips. This will reduce the possibility of noise from the head lining, which could be misinterpreted as originating from the sunroof. Refer to the Shop Manual: • Body (Interior and Exterior) > Panorama Sunroof > Repair procedures A 18. Perform the panoramic sunroof reset procedure. i Information Refer to the owner’s manual for the complete panoramic sunroof reset procedure. 19.
