SHIFT-BY-WIRE BUTTON REPLACEMENT
SUBJECT:
Description: The Shift-By-Wire (SBW) buttons have been made available as separate service parts for the
SBW lever. If replacement of the SBW button is required due to one or more button plating peeling, replace the
button(s) with a new one. Do not replace the complete SBW lever.

NOTE 3: Refer to the latest Digital Documentation Policy for repair validation
requirements.
NOTE 4: The incident parts are subject to callback through the normal Warranty Technical
Center (WTC) parts return process. Claim is subject to debit if the part requested is
not returned.
NOTE 5: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this TSB and the
affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same repair order. If
the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill
consideration prior to performing the work.
Service Procedure:
STUI
Refer to the latest Digital Documentation Policy for repair validation requirements.
1.
Record the customer’s audio stations.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.
Use a plastic trim tool to separate the console
upper cover from the lower center console.
Pull up to remove the console upper cover.

Note the location of the connectors. Two
connectors are interchangeable.
Disconnect all connectors and remove the
console upper cover.

Remove 4 screws and remove the electric
shift module.
Tucson (NX4/NX4A)
Tucson Hybrid (NX4 HEV/PHEV)
Remove 4 screws.
Insert a screwdriver to release the tab and
remove the electric shift module.

Release the tabs and remove the black cover. Remove 4 screws and release the tabs.
Remove 4 screws and remove the cover.
Remove the cover.

SHIFT-BY-WIRE BUTTON REPLACEMENT
Use a screwdriver to pop the affected buttons
off the module.
Install new button(s) on the module.
7.
Reinstall the cover on the electric shift module.
Reinstall the electric shift module on the console upper cover.
Attach the connectors and reinstall the console upper cover.
8.
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Input the customer’s audio stations.
Start the engine and confirm all electric shift buttons function correctly.
Confirm the transmission shifts into P, R, N and D.
Return the vehicle to the customer.
