Model Year:
As of 2022
Concerns:
•
•
Cause:
Due to traces of coolant found under the vehicle or in the area of the coolant reservoir, the cap of the
coolant reservoir or, in rare cases, the entire coolant reservoir is often replaced.

Analyses of the rejected components have shown that these parts were mostly found to be without
defects.
Information
Coolant leaking in this area  Traces of coolant -Arrows- is often due to a correct release of excess
pressure through the cap.

This can occur, for example, due to heat or strong
movement of the vehicle during loading and transportation
on a ship. For this reason, some of the incidents are
already noticed during the handover inspection as part of
the sales check.
Traces of coolant
Action required: If traces and residues of coolant can be seen, then the cooling system must be checked before replacing
the cap or the coolant reservoir and other components. For work procedure, see:  Workshop Manual
'190101 Checking cooling system'
The cooling system test involves the following:
•
•
•
Leak-testing the cooling system
Check coolant level and antifreeze content. Too high, a coolant level can also lead to coolant leaking
via the sealing cap.
Function and leak test on the cap
If the leak test shows no leakage from the cooling system, remove any coolant residue with a clean cloth.
These traces and residues of coolant do not constitute a defect with regard to the tightness of the cooling
system and do not entitle the user to replace the sealing cap and/or the coolant reservoir.
