Customer may experience a thumping noise and/or pulsation while braking.
CAUSE:
Possible rust accumulation on disc brake rotors
This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) has also been released as a Rapid Service Update (RSU)
23-210, date of issue July 14, 2023. All applicable RSU VINs have been loaded. To verify this RSU
service action is applicable to the vehicle, use VIP or perform a VIN search in DealerCONNECT/
Service Library. All repairs are reimbursable within the provisions of warranty. This RSU will expire 18
months after the date of issue.

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in DealerCONNECT/
Service Library, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other
than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary
before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RSU VIN list, perform the repair. If any vehicle not on the VIN list
exhibits the symptom/condition, perform the repair.
INSPECTION:
1. Perform Diagnosis And Testing - Brake Rotor Lot Rot. Refer to the detailed service procedures available
in DealerCONNECT> Service Library under: 05 - Brakes / 05 - Brakes, Base / Diagnosis and Testing.
2. Once the brake system is at ambient temperature, check if pulsing/thumping noise is present while
braking.
3. Is the brake noise/pulsation still present?
• YES>>> Proceed to Step 1 of the Repair Procedure.
• NO>>> This bulletin is complete, use Inspect LOP (05-70-22-9A) to close the active RSU.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Replace front and rear left and right pads and retention springs. Refer to the detailed service procedures
available in DealerCONNECT> Service Library under: Service Info>05 - Brakes / 05 - Brakes, Base /
Hydraulic/Mechanical / Pads, Brake, Front / Removal and Installation.
2. Perform Diagnosis And Testing - Brake Rotor Lot Rot. Refer to the detailed service procedures available
in DealerCONNECT> Service Library under: 05 - Brakes / 05 - Brakes, Base / Diagnosis and Testing.
3. Is the brake noise/pulsation still present?
• YES>>> Proceed to Step 4.
• NO>>> This bulletin is complete, use Inspect and Replace Brake Pads And Retention Springs LOP
(05-70-22-9B) to close the active RSU.
4. Replace front and rear left and right rotors. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT> Service Library under: Service Info> 05 - Brakes / 05 - Brakes, Base /
Hydraulic/Mechanical / Rotor, Brake / Removal and Installation.
5. Perform Diagnosis And Testing - Brake Rotor Lot Rot. Refer to the detailed service procedures available
in DealerCONNECT> Service Library under: 05 - Brakes / 05 - Brakes, Base / Diagnosis and Testing.
6. Is the brake noise/pulsation still present?
• YES>>> This bulletin is complete. Further diagnosis should be performed.
• NO>>> This bulletin is complete. Use LOP (05-70-22-9C) to close the active RSU.
