Bulletin No.: Service Bulletin Date: 22-NA-170 September, 2023 INFORMATION Subject: Information on Possible Crank No Start or Extended Crank with DTC P12A6 or Service Safety Restraints message on DIC, with B0073 “This Bulletin Replaces PIT5823. Please Discard PIT5823.” Brand: Model: Chevrolet Equinox Holden Equinox GMC Terrain Involved Region or Country Model Year: from to 2018 2020 VIN: from to Engine: Transmission: 2024 2024 US, Canada, Mexico, Australia/New Zealand, Middle East Additional Options (RPOs) Condition A customer may come in with a complaint of a no start, extended cranking time, a dead battery, a fuel pump that runs with key off, or a Service Safety Restraints message on the DIC. Cause This may be caused by water intrusion from the right side tail lamp due to a cracked or broken lens or housing. If the right tail lamp has standing water, the water may migrate through the bulb connector wire strands, and may settle at the X350 connector, the X320 connector or BCM. Service Procedure Important: Service agents must comply with all International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or Local laws applicable to the activities it performs under this bulletin, including but not limited to handling, deploying, preparing, classifying, packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping dangerous goods. In the event of a conflict between the procedures set forth in this bulletin and the laws that apply to your dealership, you must follow those applicable laws. 1. Inspect the right tail lamp for signs of damage or standing water. If there is damage or standing water, inspect the tail lamp bulb connectors for signs of corrosion or water. Replace the tail lamp and bulb connector, if corroded, to prevent a repeat concern. Note: Damaged tail lamps and wiring and/or connector issues it causes are not warrantable repairs unless the tail lamp is found to be defective. Impact and collision damage is not a tail lamp defect. Copyright 2023 General Motors LLC. All Rights Reserved. 6144660 Page 2 September, 2023 2. If the tail lamp and connector are damaged, continue with next step. If the tail lamp and connector are ok, continue with diagnosis following SI for the appropriate DTC. 3. For DTC P12A6, inspect connector X350 for signs of water intrusion or corrosion. X350 is the Fuel Tank Harness to Body Harness connector, under the vehicle. Bulletin No.: 22-NA-170 If water intrusion or corrosion is found, make repairs by replacing the connector with terminated leads on the body harness side, or by replacing the fuel pump control module harness, or both repairs if both sides show water intrusion, corrosion and/or damage. 4. For DTC B0073 or Service Safety Restraints message on DIC, inspect connector X320, Right Front Seat Harness to Body Harness, for signs of water intrusion or corrosion. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI prior to inspection. If water intrusion or corrosion is found, make repairs following proper procedures. Refer to SIR/ SRS Wiring Repairs in SI. 5. If water is found at either connector, also check the K9 BCM connector for signs of water intrusion. Repair wiring referring to SI for connectors and/or terminated leads. 6. If no water intrusion or corrosion is present, add dielectric grease to the connector, then continue with diagnosis following SI for the appropriate DTC. Warranty Information For wiring repairs covered under warranty, please refer to latest version of bulletin 10-00-89-005 for warranty information on wire/connector repairs. 6144661 Note: Examples above of corrosion which can cause a poor connection resulting in no-start. The water intrusion can also short terminals together, which can keep the fuel pump running after key-off, draining the battery. They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely.
