Case Number: S2309000006 Release Date: September 2023 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Engine oil leak Customer Complaint/Technician Observation: Customer complaint may include reports of oil spots under the vehicle. Discussion: Upon further investigation, the technician may find oil present on the bottom of the engine at the engine/transmission bellhousing parting line. It may appear that the leak could be coming from in between the engine and transmission. If this condition is present after the customer has been driving the vehicle off-road or in extensively dirty/dusty condition, it is possible the leak may be coming from the rear main seal. Note: The use of leak detection dye when attempting to diagnose this condition is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Any disassembly of the vehicle to diagnose the condition before dye is used is discouraged. Follow published service procedures in Service Library for disassembly and diagnosis as needed to identify the source of the leak. If the rear main seal is found to be at fault, replace as necessary.
