GROUP CAMPAIGN Technical Service Bulletin DATE OCTOBER 2023 NUMBER 23-01-067H-1 MODEL(S) IONIQ 5 (NE1) IONIQ 6 (CE1) VCU UPDATE AND OWNER’S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT (CAMPAIGN 9A1) SUBJECT: This TSB supersedes TSB 23-01-067H to include 2023-2024MY Ioniq 6 (CE1) vehicles. IMPORTANT Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. Access the “Vehicle Information” screen via WEBDCS to identify open campaigns. Description: This updated Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) software package includes the following: • Brake light logic update for regenerative braking. • i-Pedal mode operation logic update. • 12V battery saver logic update allows charging from EV Battery as low as 10% SOC when parked. The Ioniq 5 update includes these earlier items that Ioniq 6 had included from start of production: • EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) auto engagement when shift into Park/auto disengagement shift out of Park when shifting to D or R while brake pedal is engaged. • DTE (Distance to Empty) strategy. • Snow road surface performance. • Air conditioning performance during AC slow charging. • Enhance charging sequence. An “Owner’s Manual Supplement” leaflet is to be provided to 2022MY Ioniq 5 vehicle customers to explain the change to the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system. NOTE: 2023MY Ioniq 5 (NE1) vehicle Owner’s Manual already contains the EPB supplement content. Ioniq 6 (CE1) vehicles do not need a supplement. NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this campaign and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same repair order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work. NOTE 3: This TSB includes Repair validation photos. Op times include VIN, Mileage and Repair validation photos as outlined in the Digital Documentation Policy. Service Procedure: STUI This TSB includes Repair validation photos. Refer to the latest Warranty Digital Documentation Policy for requirements. 1. For 22MY Ioniq 5 Vehicles only: Attach the Owner’s Manual Supplement (EPB) leaflet listed in the Parts Information section on top of the Repair Order. Inform the Service Advisor to explain and provide it to the customer. 2. Perform the VCU Update in Auto Mode. TSB #: 23-01-067H-1 Page 2 of 5 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: VCU UPDATE AND OWNER’S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT (CAMPAIGN 9A1) a) Use the Auto Mode ID Check to verify the VCU ROM ID before updating the software. ! WARNING In Stock Vehicles: Turn OFF Shipping Mode to prevent vehicle automatic shutdown that may result in an update failure. ! WARNING GDS Vehicle Battery Voltage: • VCU Update is long, so the 12V battery must be at good charge level (>60% SOC). • If the voltage is below 12 volts as per the GDS warning, then select Back and run the vehicle at least 30 minutes to reach an adequate battery state of charge to prevent an ECU Update failure. Cycle the ignition OFF/ON before retrying ECU update again. i Information GDS ECU Updates must be performed in Auto Mode. • If ECU Update starts but then fails in Auto Mode, perform update in Manual Mode to recover. • Turn off ignition for 30 seconds and try Manual Mode recovery. • If unsuccessful, re-attempt Manual Mode after disconnecting the cables from the 12V battery terminals and performing cap discharge (connecting bar or heavy wire between “+” to “-“ cables). TSB #: 23-01-067H-1 Page 3 of 5 SUBJECT: SUBJECT: VCU UPDATE AND OWNER’S MANUAL SUPPLEMENT (CAMPAIGN 9A1) b) After the ECU Upgrade process shows 100% complete, cycle the ignition key to OFF for at least 10 seconds to reset the control unit. c) Take a screenshot of the ECU Update complete screen and upload to STUI. STUI Take a screenshot of the ECU Update Complete screen using your particular tablet’s screenshot save method and upload to STUI. EXAMPLE 3. Perform an All Systems Fault Code search and erase the history of the DTC that had incidentally occurred from the ECU update. 4. Start the vehicle in Ready mode to confirm a proper operation of the vehicle.
