The noise subsides when the vehicle is put into 4WD. This condition may be more prominent in colder temperatures. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition. Choose the correct OFP for the vehicle being repaired by searching for the parts in the Electronic Parts Catalog using the VIN filter. APPLICABLE WARRANTY This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Confirm the condition exists. Does the vehicle exhibit a cyclic growl/groan noise from the front of the vehicle while driving in 2WD at around 30 – 50 mph (48 – 80 kph)? YES — Continue to step 2. NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual. 2. Confirm the front differential production date. Figure 1. Replace the front differential. Remove the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly. Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual: 2021 – 2024 4Runner: Engine/Hybrid System – Engine Mechanical – “1GR-FE (Engine Mechanical): Engine Assembly: Removal” 5. Locate the front No.1 differential support with two threaded holes. Figure 2. 1 c 2 c 6. Install the dynamic damper facing upward with the two flanged bolts. Figure 4. Torque: 25 N*m (254.9 kgf*cm, 19 ft*lbf) 8. Reinstall the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly.
