Condition
When replacing a front wheel speed sensor (WSS) it is critical that the correct part
number WSS sensor be installed for it to properly sense the magnetic encoder ring
located on the wheel bearing assemblies.
The Right (1) and Left (2) front WSS, shown below, look very similar and there
have been many cases where the wrong sensor has been installed.
An example would be a right WSS installed on the left side of the vehicle.
Subsequently, several unnecessary parts are replaced, such as, Brake System
Control Modules, wheel bearings, additional wrong WSS, pigtail connectors, etc.
Cause
Incorrect part number WSS installed.
Correction:
If a front WSS is replaced and you continue to set WSS DTC(s) for the same side, then check to make sure the
correct part number front WSS was installed.
Inspect the tip of the WSS to ensure the at side of the sensor tip is orientated towards the wheel bearing
magnetic encoder ring.
