SITUATION
When the center armrest of the second seat row is lowered but the center section of the seat is in its upright
position, a rattle noise may be heard when the vehicle goes over a cobblestone/rough road.
The noise can be heard from the pull tab marked with blue tape in the picture.

The metal pin that retains the pull
tab may move within the plastic
housing if manufacturing tolerances
are too great.
CORRECTION
An application of felt tape applied to the latch housing will stop the noise.
PROCEDURE
Follow Repair Instruction REP-52 25 388
“Removing the rear middle head restraint”.
Press the locks 1 and remove the head
restraint 2 towards the top.

Follow Repair Instructions REP-52 26 394 to
remove guide sleeve(s) for the head
restraint.
Remove the 20% latch cover and undo the
trim retainer in the back of the upper 20%
trim.
Roll the 20% trim cover toward the front.
Remove the 2 screws circled in blue.
Carefully disassemble the front head box
cover by pressing on the tabs shown with
yellow arrows and the tabs on the side (not
shown in this view).

This will allow access to the pull strap
mechanism.
Remove pull tab and its metal retaining pin
from the plastic housing

Apply felt tape 40 x 15 mm onto the plastic
housing as shown.
Install pull tab and its metal retaining pin into
the plastic housing.

Route the pull tab under plastic housing.
Carefully assemble the front head box cover
by locking into the tabs shown with yellow
arrows and the tabs on the side (not shown
in this view).
Install the 2 screws circled in blue.
Torque screw to 3.8 +/- 0.5 Nm.
Roll the 20% trim cover toward the rear.
Install the 20% latch cover and trim retainer
in the back of the upper 20% trim.

Install guide sleeves for the head restraint.
Install head restraint 2 into the guide
sleeves, and depress the guide locks 1 to
adjust height.
