Introduction
Volvo trucks has determined that certain VN model trucks built with an D13 Turbo Compound
engine that have had a reman TC unit installed could experience a failure with the reman TC unit.
Reman TC units with the serial numbers listed in the chart below are suspected to have the
incorrect bearing preload that could result in failure of the TC unit causing engine damage. On
effected vehicles follow the instructions below to.
1. Inspect the serial number tag on the TC unit and compare to the list below.
2. If the serial number on the TC matches one listed below, replace the TC unit with a
reman unit.

Park the vehicle on level surface.
Apply the parking brake.
Place the gear level in neutral.
Install the wheel chocks.
Locate the serial number tag on the lower side of the TC unit.

6. Compare the serial number on the TC unit to the listed serial numbers listed above.
1. If the serial number on the TC unit does not match the listed ones above, not
further action is needed.
2. If the serial number on the TC unit is on the list above continue to step 7.
7. Use operation (2921-03-02-01 Turbo compound, Replacement) in Impact to replace the
TC unit with a reman one.
