Case Number: S2309000013 Release Date: November 2023 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Verifying Camshaft Diagnosis Discussion: Once the root cause of an issue has been determined to be related to the valve train (i.e. the camshaft), proceed with disassembly to inspect for evidence of part wear/failure. Note: Valve train components should be handled with care so no collateral damage occurs during removal, inspection or return shipping so that engineering inspection can be properly performed. Unnecessary replacements of camshafts due to tenuous marks that roller, follower or head bearing leave on camshaft surfaces sometimes occur. See examples below to ensure proper diagnosis/replacement of camshafts. This document does not authorize warranty repairs. This communication documents a record of past experiences. STAR Online does not provide any conclusions about what is wrong with the vehicle. Rather, it captures all previous cases known that appear to be similar or related to the vehicle symptom / condition.
