Condition
Excessive oil consumption, blue smoke from exhaust below 2000 miles.
Cause
Engine camshaft cover internal failure.
Correction:
You may encounter a customer concern of excessive engine oil consumption and/or blue smoke from the exhaust
on any of the listed vehicles with less than 2,000 miles.
P04DB May or may not be stored current or in history.
The engine may or may not mis re due to oil fouled spark plugs.
Remove the spark plugs and con rm that the oil consumption is evident in all cylinders, not just a single cylinder.
If all cylinders have evidence of excessive oil, replace the engine camshaft cover.
Road test the vehicle to clear the excess oil from the exhaust system.
Properly set the engine oil level and mark the oil level indicator.
Perform a short mileage oil consumption test (100 miles) to con rm that the engine oil consumption issue is
corrected.
If the oil consumption continues, perform Strategy Based Diagnosis.
