Condition
Cause
A vehicle may be encountered with the forward collision alert indicators illuminated
when they should not be.
It may be found that the indicator is on whenever the ignition is on.
It may be found that the indicator comes on when the headlights are turned on.
The harness to the P43 Collision Alert Indicator may be pinched between the cowl
and the dash tie bar causing the circuits to short together or to ground.
Correction:
Remove the instrument cluster hood- see SI for removal procedure.
Remove the P43 collision alert Indicator
Looking down between the cowl and the dash inspect the harness to the P43 for being pinched between the cowl
and the large tie bar that goes across the instrument panel carrier.
It may be necessary to move the sound deadening material on the cowl to see the harness.
It may be necessary to follow the harness down with a hand to help locate the direction the harness follows and
the area that it is pinched.
If the harness is found to be pinched or damaged, remove components as needed to gain access to the area and
repair it as necessary following wire repair procedures in SI.
