Condition
Some customers may comment that the Stop/Start System is inoperative, and the
message “Stop/Start System Disabled” appears on the DIC. The MIL may also be ON,
and DTC P16DC set.
Cause
DTC P16DC disables the Stop/Start System.
Correction
Vehicles that have DTC P16DC set should follow SI
diagnostics. Refer to DTC P058A-P058F,
P16D4-P16D6, P16DC-P16DF, or P16E1-P16E3 in SI.
If SI diagnostics directs the Service Technician to
replace the Battery Sensor Module, do NOT replace
the Battery Sensor Module, just clear the DTC.
Engineering is aware of the issue and is currently
researching the concern.
Customer Information
Please communicate to the customer that we apologize
for this inconvenience and that General Motors is
working on a solution for this concern. Once a solution
is available, this PI will be updated with additional
details - allowing dealership personnel to contact the
customer to schedule a service appointment and repair
the vehicle.
Version
The vehicle is perfectly safe to operate. The only
consequence of P16DC is the disablement of Stop/start
feature. Clearing the DTC shall enable stop/start after
the vehicle has performed “Battery Sensor Module
Learn.” DTCs may reset during normal operation. In
that case, return vehicle to dealer for service or to clear
codes.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these
technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper
service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a
job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your
vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the
information.
