This PI announces the Restriction Program on the front drive unit for the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette ERay. A new front drive unit can not be ordered by the dealership’s parts department without a
Technical Assistance Center (TAC) case number, authorizing the need for a new part. If a dealership
believes that a new unit is needed, please read through this entire PI and call TAC to review the
diagnostics that were performed and to assist with placing the order.
Condition
This program will begin on 02/21/2024 to gather important feedback on these brand-new front drive
units.
This PI will be revised in the future to announce the end of the restriction program, which will be
determined at a later date.
Product teams continually seek valuable information for engineering improvements. To assist in this
e ort, the restriction program will be employed on the front drive unit in this vehicle. It is imperative
Concern that session logs and freeze frame failure records be captured along with any DTC's set, and that they
are not to be cleared during diagnosis.
Correction:
The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray's Front Drive Unit restriction will be fully administered by the GM Technical
Assistance Center (TAC). Please do NOT contact the Powertrain Quality Center (PQC) for any issues related to this
restriction.
Note: As with diagnosing any hybrid or Electric Vehicle (EV), the servicing technician must be high-voltage certi ed.
If a service technician believes that diagnosis leads to the replacement of the front drive unit in one of these
vehicles, he or she must gather all SI document numbers used during diagnosis, as well as have a record of ALL
DTCs that were set, regardless if they were history or current. All other readings and measurements that were
obtained during diagnosis must be on hand as well. Then, attach the GDS2 session logs to the TAC case, per the
latest version of PIP5632. Once all of these items have been collected/ attached to the case, please call into TAC
to review diagnosis. Do not clear the DTCs in the vehicle, until AFTER the case is reviewed with TAC.
After speaking with the TAC consultant, if it has been determined that more information is needed, it will be up to
the tech to obtain the requested information and call back into TAC to continue with the case. If the consultant
agrees that diagnosis has been performed correctly, then TAC will assist in releasing a restricted front drive
unit, and getting it shipped out to the dealership.
Although it is not a requirement to obtain this at the time of ordering, there is a serial number that is found on a
label on top of the drive unit. Once the drive unit has been physically removed from the vehicle, it is required that
the TAC case be updated with this information. The following pictures show the location of this label to
understand where this serial number is located on the actual unit. The serial number is the 16-character
alphanumeric code on the label. For example, the serial number on the drive unit shown in these pictures is 1023
2423 BBCX 0002.
The TAC telephone number for the US is 1-877-446-8227. Please select the TAC prompt (currently selection #1),
followed by the Hybrid prompt, (currently selection #5). For Canadian Dealerships, the phone number is 1-800263-7740 for English speaking residents, or 1-800-263-7960 for French speaking residents.
Danger: Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or
connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
With the High Voltage Disabling procedure you will perform the following tasks:
-Identify how to disable high voltage.
-Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
-Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and
proper procedures must be followed.
Before working on any high voltage system, be sure to wear the following Personal Protection Equipment:
-Safety glasses with appropriate side shields when within 50 feet of the vehicle, either indoors or outdoors.
-Certi ed and up-to-date Class "0" Insulation gloves, rated at 1000V with leather protectors.
Visually and functionally inspect the gloves before use.
Wear the Insulation gloves at all times when working with the Drive Motor Battery assembly, whether the
system is energized or not.
Failure to follow the procedures exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.
1. Perform the High Voltage Disable procedure at the drive motor generator control module assembly or cable
connections. Refer to the document titled, "High Voltage Disabling" in SI.
2. Perform the High Voltage Enable procedure when the replacement drive unit is installed and ready to be test
driven. Refer to the document titled, "High Voltage Enabling" in SI.
