911 (997) Technical Information 10/05 ENU 9112 9 PCM2.1 and Navigation Unit: System Connection Software Release, “Model Level B" Revision: This bulletin replaces bulletin Group 9 10/05, dated June 23, 2005. Model Year: As of 2005 Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera (997)/911 Carrera S (997)/911 GT3 (997) Equipment: PCM 2.1 (I No. 665) Navigation (I No. 670) This Relates To: - PCM 2.1 operator control unit - Navigation unit Situation: New system connection software release, software name - Model Level B. Earlier system connection software, release name - Model Level A. Since approx mid-April 2005 a new system level software release (Model Level B) was introduced as standard equipment for PCM 2.1 and DVD navigation unit. This release includes changes to both the PCM2.1 head unit hardware and the DVD navigation unit hardware as well as the software for both components. The Navigation DVD required for this software release is labeled "04.2005" and comes with the vehicle (since approx. mid-April 2005). CAUTION Incompatibility of hardware and software for PCM 2.1 and navigation unit with previous versions. The navigation DVD that is valid as of Model Level B (label 04.2005 or higher) is not compatible with the previous navigation unit since a software update of the PCM 2.1. system connection is required for this; ( a corresponding Technical Information release is being prepared for this. The navigation DVDs that are valid for Model Level A (label 04.2004/08.2004/10.2004) cannot be used in the navigation unit installed as of Model Level B. In both cases (Model Level A <-> Model Level B), the software will detect and prevent an inadvertent or forced update (compatibility check).
