Apple Devices with Lightning Connector (iPhone 5, iPad
fourth generation, iPod Nano seventh generation)
The Apple iPhone 5, iPad fourth generation, and iPod nano seventh generation use a proprietary
“Lightning” connector that is different than the 30 pin dock connector found on previous iPhone
and iPod models.
Because of the difference in connectors, an adapter is necessary to connect these devices to the
cable supplied with the Media Device Interface (MDI).
The adapter is available for purchase from Apple and is not included with the device. Use of an
aftermarket (non-Apple) adapter may prevent the device from connecting to the MDI and may
only allow for charging of the device.
