Steps 10-20 are for headlamp aiming and adjustment, assuming station is already setup; Please ensure that vehicle's tires are inflated to proper specification prior to performing headlamp aiming and adjustment. NOTICE To perform the headlamp aiming check and adjustment, a distance of 118 1/8 inches is required between the vehicle and wall or screen. Vehicle should also be on a flat surface. If the floor surface is not flat, refer to the steps from below to level the floor. Wall/Screen 118 1/8 in. 27 ± .5 in. Ground Engine Low Beam Center Marking Height to Floor 3.5 T/2.5T 27 ± .5 in. Vehicle Headlamp Distance to Wall/Screen 118 1/8 in. Vehicle Alignment To The Wall 1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface in front of a screen or wall. Approximately 100 inches Ensure the wall or screen is wide enough to display both the left and right headlamp beams. 2. Check the front and rear tire pressure to ensure it is inflated to the correct pressure (38psi). Adjust the tire pressure by inflating or deflating as necessary. TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 3 of 11 3. Measure 118 1/8 in. from the wall and place two pieces of masking tape or two marks approximately 5.5 ft. apart from each other onto the floor. NOTICE 118 1/8 in. The purpose of these two markings is to provide assistance with aligning the vehicle in parallel to the wall/screen along with approximate distance. The measurement in the next step will be precise. Approx. 5.5 ft. Confirm both the left and right headlamps center points are 118 1/8 in. away from the wall/screen. This will ensure the vehicle is paralleled with the wall/screen. Wall/Screen 4. Drive the vehicle towards the two marks/tapes on the floor and measure 118 1/8 in. from the headlamp center point imprinted circle to the wall/screen. 118 1/8 in. Blue Tape/Marking on the Floor Ground The center point for the light bulb is the circle imprinted on the headlamp. It may be difficult to see the imprinted circle, so viewing from different angles is required. The picture to the right illustrates the location of the imprinted circle overlay with the blue tape for better visual. TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 4 of 11 5. Mark the center of the tire locations for each wheel. Place a masking tape at the center of the tire, and draw a line to match with the center wheel axle. Floor Level Validation 6. Move the vehicle away from the 4 marked tape points. 7. Connect the Laser to the Tripod and move it to one of the four tire markings on the floor. Turn the laser ON and confirm it is projecting a horizontal beam. Adjust the Tripod tilt if necessary until the laser is showing a stable beam, and shooting across to all the other three corners. Projected Laser Beam Floor Markings Tripod and Laser NOTICE The laser is a self-leveling system. As long as the laser is showing a constant beam, it is shooting a straight line. 8. Adjust the laser to any height desired (ex. 10”, 15”, 20”, 25” and etc.), and then tighten the tripod legs and laser to ensure the setting does not change. Take measurements of the remaining three markings on the floor. TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 5 of 11 9. Compare the four height measurements. If they are all the same height then the floor is leveled. If not, then proceed with using the 1/8” hardwood/metal plank(s) to shim the floor. Example of measurements and shimming: This measurement indicates the floor at this corner has a slight dip of 3/8”. Therefore, three 1/8” shims are needed to level this corner. Confirm all four corners are at the same height. NOTICE 26” 26 3/8”” If necessary, use duct tape to tape the plank(s) onto the floor. This will prevent slippage and save the setup for the next vehicle. NOTICE The picture to the right is only an example. There are cases where multiple corners will require shimming. 26” 26” Headlamp Beam Validation/Adjustment 10. Drive the vehicle and align the tires onto the four marks on the floor. If applicable, ensure the hardboard/metal shimming does not slip away from the tire. Ensure both the left and right headlamp circle markings on the headlamp are 118 1/8 in. away from the wall. 11. Place a piece of masking tape next to the imprinted circle to each headlamp. The masking tape will make it easier to see the laser. Imprinted circle TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 6 of 11 12. Place the laser and tripod in front center of the vehicle and verify if the laser line is evenly crossing the left and right headlamp imprinted circle. This will confirm the vehicles is leveled. Projected laser beam 13. Use a tape measurement or yard stick and measure the height of the low beam imprinted circle mark on the headlamp to the ground or shim (if applicable). If the tire is shimmed then the ground level is the top of the shim. Confirm the measurement of the imprinted circle mark is 27 ± .5 in. to the ground/shim. 27 ± .5 in. NOTICE If necessary, move the laser and tripod towards the wheel and align the laser beam to the imprinted circle mark on the headlamp. Take the measurement from the projected beam to the ground. TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 7 of 11 14. Move the Tripod and laser near the front corner of the headlamp and adjust until the laser hits the center of the circle marking on the lamp and the wall. The image to the right is an edited picture to illustrate an example of laser alignment. Projected laser beam 15. Make a mark or place a piece of masking tape on the wall following the laser line. 16. Remove the masking tape on the headlamps, and turn the ignition and headlights ON. NOTICE If possible, lower/dim the shop light so it is easier to see the headlight beam cut-off line. 17. Confirm if the top of the beam light for both the left and right side are at the line on the wall. If not, adjust the beam by following the procedure described in the next step. TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 8 of 11 18. Insert a long Phillips screwdriver into the adjusting hole and turn it clockwise or counterclockwise. Insert Phillips Screwdriver Turning the screwdriver clockwise will bring the beam downward and counterclockwise will bring the beam upward. NOTICE Perform the headlight beam adjustment with the vehicle unoccupied. The vehicle must be empty. Cut-Off Line Explained NOTICE Both the left and right headlamp produces a slight bluish and yellowish light right above the brightest point of the beam. The Cut-Off line is right above the bluish/yellowish area. NOTICE The location to concentrate the viewing point is approximately 6 inches to the right from where the curved area ends. Use this location to adjust the headlight beam height to align with the tape/mark on the wall/screen. Cut-Off line Darkest Light Region Use this location to adjust the beam to the tape/mark on the wall/screen 6 in. Bluish/Yellowish Region Brightest Light Region TSB #: 21-01-029G-1 Page 9 of 11 Close Up Example Of The Passenger Side Headlight Beam Adjustment Headlight beam cut-off line is too high and requires adjustment downward to the marked line on the wall/screen. No Good Tape/Marked Line on the Wall/Screen Headlight beam cut-off line is slightly high and requires a slight adjustment downward to the marked line on the wall/screen. No Good Tape/Marked Line on the Wall/Screen Headlight beam cut-off line is too low and requires adjustment downward to the marked line on the wall/screen. No Good Tape/Marked Line on the Wall/Screen Headlight beam cut-off line is adjusted right at the marked line on the wall/screen. Good Tape/Marked Line on the Wall/Screen 19. Visually inspect to ensure both headlamp cut-off lines are even with each other. 20. Leave the markings on the floor. If the shims were not taped down, take note of which corners required shimming. This will help ease the adjustment of another Genesis G80 (RG3). Extended tape/mark on the floor NOTICE For ease of aligning the next vehicle, extend the tape/marking on the floor connecting the front and rear wheel axle. Procedure complete.
