Spongy brake pedal and grinding from front right of vehicle. Dealership states that this is normal. Yet when i drive my 07 kia i almost send myself through the windshield everytime i press on the brakes (same thing applies when i drive my 1988 C2500) because i'm so use to having to hit the brakes hard and multiple times. I'm sure this isn't normal. The dealership doesn't think that safety is a concern.

    2003 GMC SIERRA 1500 with 70500.0 miles

A vehicle pulled out in front of my son last night on his way to a boy scout meeting. The speed limit was 45. My son hit the brakes which locked up then let loose. Pedal went to the floor . He avoided hitting the car that pulled out on him and when i arrived found that the metal brake line running along the frame had ruptured as it bent to go across the frame behind the cab. This truck has only 70,000 miles on it and this is a premature failure due to premature rust. I own and 1971 dodge dart and a 1978 pontiac firebird with original metal brake lines on both with no rust on lines at all and i live in ohio and they are driven in the winter. I feel fortunate my son and no one else was injured due to the catastrophic failure of the gm metal brake line. Hope others will be just as fortunate. Toyota was forced into a recall of there truck line due to premature rusting problems and gm should be made to follow suite. These vehicles are accidents waiting to happen. I also own a 1994 Gmc C2500 suburban that has no visible rust on the brake lines either with 170,000 miles that i have owned for 15 years. . The 2003 Gmc chassis is truly sub standard to say the least. Please look into these issues i have read the forums out there and i know i am not alone. Thanks.

    2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO

I received two new tailgate cable supports from a dealer in arcadia, florida this past winter. I installed them myself on my 2002 chevy C2500 hd crew cab pickup. I have reason to believe the new cables are not made from stainless steel as they are supposed to be. This is because a magnet will stick to the cables, just like to old ones. The dealer really had no answer other than the new cables were the ones they were installing on everyone's vehicle that responded to the recall. I know that 203 type stainless steel has a small amount of carbon and will attract a magnet slightly, but i still believe the "new" cables are the same as the old ones. Thank you, gene faulconer.

Dt: the consumer states that their 1999 Gmc C2500 light duty pick up was involved in a crash and the air bags did not deploy. Upon further review by gm the vehicle was discovered to not have any air bags in it. The vehicle was bought brand new and the owners were under the pretense that the vehicle was equipped with air bags. The speed of the crash was around 55 mph. The owner of the truck hit a tree head on. The driver of the truck does not remember what caused the wreck. The driver suffered life threatening injuries. He had a broken neck, broken left shoulder and a broken humerus in his left arm along with severe head trauma. The driver did have on his seat belt at the time of the accident. The police report did not determine what caused the accident. There are lots of pictures of the vehicle. There is also an insurance report that could be available. The insurance agent also thought that there was an air bag in the truck. Gm sent a representative to inspect the truck. The representative from gm spent an hour looking for the air bag and could not find it. The truck was picked up off the ground on a fork lift and the representative was looking for the air bag censors and still could not find any. Gm was also under the impression that there were air bags in the truck. The owners have a letter from gm stating that they retrieved data, photographs and measurements from the vehicle. And they were going to get information from the diagnostic and sensing module. The truck was totaled. The consumer was told that a vehicle weighing more than 8500 pounds does not have to have air bags, the truck missed the weight limit by 100 pounds.

    1999 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN

Friday june 6, 2001 my wife and five kids left from huntsville, al to go to pensacola, fl for the weekend, they got about 250 miles and the rear end blew out on our 1999 chevy Suburban lt k1500. The was a "klunk" as she was travelling 70mph on i-65. There was a dealership in sight, so i had it towed there, and the following monday i called to get an estimate. I was told the rear end housing had a hole blown through it. They wanted to charge me $1,900 for a used rear end, and $250 for labor. The labor sounded reasonable, but the $1,900 was outrageous. I contacted the chevy dealer in pensacola and located a used rear end with a 12 month parts and labor warranty for $1,200, so i called a flat bed wrecker and paid $220 to have towed to pensacola for repair. I called chevy customer service and filed a complaint against the greenville dealer and on the vehicle itself (file #C04557412). The first cr i spoke with took the information, but was not very helpful beyond that. My own mechanic who repaired the vehicle examined the rear end and said it looked like there was no seal or leakage problem but that something inside just gave out and went through the housing. We had owned a 93, C2500 that had a problem with the rear end seal after 140,000 miles, and that is a little more understandable, but 72,000 miles seems like a very premature death for a rear end to incur an internal failure. I called chevy customer service back and spoke with a judy franco. I told her what the mechanic said about the rear end and she said they would look into it further. She reported doing some investigating and said that there was nothing chevy would do. She and a service rep in pensacola said they doubted that chevy would do anything for me because of the mileage, and because i did not have it repaired at the dealership. Although the rep in pensacola told me that if the vehicle was under 60,000 miles that, it was possible that something could have been done in the way of compensation.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet C2500. The contact heard a squealing noise when the steering wheel was turned. The mechanic stated that the vehicle needed a new power steering pump. He made the repair and there had been no further occurrences. The current and failure mileages were 90,000.

The contact pulled the vehicle into a shopping center and noticed a puddle of fuel under the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a leak in the fuel line. The fuel line was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact mentioned that the fuel line was made out of soybean and the squirrels chewed it, which caused a continuous leak from the fuel line. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. While driving on i-95 in my 1994 Chevrolet C2500 with the 6.5 l naturally aspirated diesel, my truck suddenly stalled and i lost all my engine powered components (power steering, brakes, etc.) i pushed on the brake pedal very hard but was barely slowing down. I finally got the truck slowed down enough to get off on the shoulder of the freeway. I then had to sit there for 30 minutes to allow the pump mounted driver to cool down before i could turn around and garage my vehicle. It happened several (5-10) times over the course of a 30 mile trip. I have seen many instances of the same thing happening to other 6.5l diesel owners. This is unacceptable. Something needs to be done about the pump mounted drivers (pmds) on this engine. They overheat and cause the engine to fail. I will be replacing the pmd on my engine and that will take care of the problem. This could have caused a major accident if i would have needed to brake suddenly while my engine was stalled. It

1993 POWERTRAIN POWERTRAIN with 103000. miles

While traveling through heavy rains in the sf bay area my windshield wipers would stop and required a physical push to restart. This caused me to have to blindly make my way to the side of the freeway and stop to restart the wipers. I had the wiper unit replaced under warranty before the 03023 recall. The problems reappeared later and though they are the same as those reported for the 94-98 recall, my '93 C2500 is not covered. Numerous other reports on your website indicate this was a '93 problem as well. Please include these vehicles in the recall before someone is killed - if there have not already been related deaths. There is no resolution to this for us when we have to pay chevy to fix the problem with another defective part! Ps. This is the 2nd entry i've made to your website. I forces me to choose a heavy vehicle model truck and does not show the light vehicle selection as per the instructions. Also, the lead in page indicates you can call and your report will be recorded via phone but after a l o n g series of instructions you are ultimately only given the option to record your address for a card to be sent in 2 weeks. It is misleading.

The spare tire was located underneath the frame of the vehicle and had fallen in the road in front of an oncoming minivan. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the rewind cable failed due to rust. The rewind system needed to be replaced. The contact purchased the rewind system and will have the component installed. He was concerned of the safety risk issue involved with the securing of the spare tire. The failure and current mileages were 126,000. Update 09/10/08 *cw the consumer stated had the cable been made from stainless steel, it would not have failed. Updated 09/19/08.
