P0024

"B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)

DTC P0024, sometimes indicated as P002400 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing "b" camshaft position - timing over-advanced or system performance (bank 2).

This code is set when the PCM detects that the camshaft position is over-advanced (retarded) for more than the allowed time. This code is usually caused by a failed camshaft position sensor.

2018 BUICK ENCLAVE with 19750.0 miles

During normal commute, vehicle began bucking badly, would not accelerate and began rolling backwards. Check engine light illuminated. Shut vehicle down, restarted, and the problem seemed to clear. Brought vehicle to dealership, found codes P0011, P0014, P0021 and P0024 set. Dealership contacted gm, who acknowledged the issue but offered no fix. They are still studying the issue and have no resolution. Dealership cleared codes and released vehicle back to us. Issue may return at any time. How can i trust my family in a vehicle that may suddenly, without warning, begin bucking, stop accelerating and cause an accident? This is an unsafe condition that gm needs to address. I am disappointed that they have no resolution. Dealership referenced bulletin piP5569e, so gm acknowledges the issue. I found references from almost a year ago to this issue via google - that's very disconcerting that, in this time, gm cannot identify a fix.

2018 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE with 18991.0 miles

Driving late at night with family down a state highway/city street with some stoplights and rotary, vehicle suddenly seems to be intermittently losing power or transmission slipping when driving. When giving gas entering rotary, intermittent slipping/power loss (like a skipping power/slipping transmission) worsened - felt greater loss of power and for slightly longer periods. Noted engine light came on. Worsening intermittent power failure/slipping/hesitation/jerking continued when giving gas to engine for ~1/4 mile until pulled into shopping mall parking lot. Felt lucky to be able to reach lot, called for flatbed tow to dealer. Dealer had vehicle for 1 week, and when assessment complete, reported dtc P0011, P0014, P0021 and P0024 cam codes. They visually inspected with no concerns, test actuator system operating. Search for bulletins revealed document 5251270 with no repair yet for anomaly, which describes "some customers may comment that the ses [service engine soon] lamp is illuminated. This lamp may have come on by itself or in some cases, the customer may experience drivability issues such as a stall, lurch, stumble, hesitation or power loss after an auto stop/restart." notes technician may find the above listed codes. Cause is listed as "a software anomaly that allows the 'verify sync' status to not restart and reach full 'sync' when the engine restarts. The ecm then reports actual cam positions as '0' while it continues to command the actuators to move resulting in engine roughness and/or drivability concerns (as stated above) with the possibility of setting multiple cam phaser performance dtcs." instructions on the bulletin are to check and clear codes and return vehicle to customer. Bulletin created on 5/7/2018 with 5 updates since. Brought vehicle back to dealer due to concerns of lack of fix and safety when recurs, dealer unable to replicate.

2018 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE with 8126.0 miles

In early april 2019, approximately the first week of april, i was driving the Traverse on a hill and stopped at a stop light. When the light turned green, i attempted to step on the gas and pull forward, but the car rolled backwards. I looked down to see if i was in reverse, but the car was in drive. This specific incident occurred a total of two times. On april 23, 2019 around 9:40 am i was driving and my car stalled multiple times during this trip. I was not sure if the car was going to make it to my final destination. The check engine light illuminated. On april 24, i received a call from the dealership. The dealership informed me that the car showed 4 'codes'. P0011 'a' camshaft position ' timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1 P0014 'b' camshaft position ' timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1 P0021 'a' camshaft position ' timing over-advanced or system performance bank 2 P0024 'b' camshaft position ' timing over-advanced or system performance bank 2 these codes represented a software problem related to the engine. Tim informed me that according to the gm bulletin (piP5568e or document id# 5251270), the recommendation is to delete the codes and that there is not a software solution to the problem at this time. The dealership informed me that because of the severity of the symptoms i was experiencing related to the codes he did not feel comfortable with the recommendation from the gm bulletin and he would be escalating the issue to the gm district manager. The ultimate result is that they want to delete the codes and have me come pick up the car as there is no solution to the issue at this time.

2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO with 40000 miles

When i am driving or when i start my car every two weeks or so many miles the engine light will come on. After driving so many miles or a day later the engine light will go back off. This has happened 10 times since purchasing the car. I am taking it to the dealership on monday to figure out why this may be happening. This is $150 just to get a diagnostics test done. I have had a diagnostics test done on the car previously when this first happened for free at an auto store. It threw the P0024 cam shaft code. I'm anxious to figure out what's happening.

2015 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT with 700662. miles

2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0t 4cyl wjth the previously recalled (2011-2014) engine. Theta || gdi 2.0 was running perfectly normal one day no warning lights or messages were displayed besides my tire pressure light . I was driving about 30 miles an hour on flat paved road when the engine started making a knocking/ ticking noise very loudly , the check engine light then came on , i turned the car around to head back home which i was only 4 miles away , the car was losing power to the engine as i kept driving to make it home , i made it to the hill i live on which is steep and tried to go a little faster but the car wouldn't go over 20 mph at this point and the noise is becoming louder and louder . I made it to my drive when the engine shut down . I turned the key off for about a minute and then tried starting it up again , it wouldn't. Turn over and made a loud clunk . I did try having the vehicle repaired as i was told the trouble code it was displaying were P0014 and P0024 , my mechanic diagnosed this as the engine timing solenoids needing to be replaced and the camshaft timing being advanced , i went ahead with the new solenoids and a complete oil change due to there being metal shavings in the oil and on the solenoids . After the repairs were complete it was test driven by the mechanic and the engine shut down once again, the brand new solenoids and oil all had been contaminated with metal shavings . I was then advised that the engine needs to be replaced at my expense as it is out of warranty. I now have a car with an outstanding balance that doesn't run and a very high mechanic bill and nothing to show for it. I will not be purchasing a replacement engine out of pocket as this is a faulty engine

2015 KIA SORENTO with 109000. miles

After last oil change aprox. 3 months ago. No issues until last week when suv would sound like it's accelerating really fast but not going very fast. On startup i kept hearing a squealing and grinding sound. One day out driving without any warning lights or anything my car seems to loose power if i took my foot off gas. Took it to mechanic who said the engine needs to be replaced. When using the machine to read codes it read P0014 and P0024 (camshaft positioning sensors) was told to check wires and sensors didn't seem to be the ultimate problem. During it's last visit to the mechanic it drained out 2 quarts of oil but no oil had been leaking anywhere. Crude was inside the oil check tube.

The check engine repeatedly comes one and car stalls or idles when driving. Can not pass inspection due to P0014 and P0024 camshaft codes repeatedly coming back on. Research shows this is a common problem with these models. This occurs when driving in the city limits.

Upon service station oil change engine warning codes P0024,P0014 showed immediatley next morning. Wix filter, mgd mgl 10082, bought by my mechanic from oriellys auto parts had no resemblance to original filter even though advertized as oem replacement. This had perforated metal shell and solid rubber top and bottom when Kia version is fan folded paper all over it damaged engine vvti, cam exhaust manifold warning since this is a oil timed engine . I did not drive it until fixed, oil switch, and pressure sending unit. 100% percent of oil had been forced out top of engine and pooled in the v6. Several technical sites say these filters design have failed including redesign. Now oriellys and wix are dragging thier feet imn fixing this and reimbursing me for exspense. Not even thier product. I was driving vehicle less than 20 miles

2007 TOYOTA AVALON with 67234.0 miles

Driving at speed on interstate. A/c warning light illuminated. Turned off a/c. At destination, parked car for several hours. Did not turn on a/c when driving from parking lot. Soon check engine light vsc and trac lights came on. Drove at low speed directly to Toyota dealer to check problem. Dealer found oil level 1 qt. Low and oil leaking from vvti line. Tech used Toyota scan tool found codes P0024 P0012 for vvti timing malfunctions.Ttech replaced both vvti cams and cam housings, cam gears, intake gaskets, oil pump gasket, oil pan gasket, head gaskets, timing cover gasket. Initial estimate for repair was @ $6400 as car was out of warranty due to mileage. After discussion, the dealer got Toyota to pick up the cost of most of the parts. I paid $2527 for labor and $28.57 for parts. Subsequently the dealer advised me that the problem had occasioned a Toyota recall. I submitted a claim a month ago to Toyota for a refund, but have had no reply from the company.
