P0242
Turbocharger Boost Sensor B Circuit High
DTC P0242, sometimes indicated as P024200 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing turbocharger boost sensor b circuit high.
A code P0242 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
-A fault in the turbocharger boost sensor
-A fault in the wiring or connectors between the turbocharger boost sensor and the ECM
-A fault in the ECM
If the code is accompanied by a Check Engine Light, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if the light goes out. If it does, there may be a problem with the ECM. If the light does not go out, there may be a problem with the wiring or connectors.
If there is a problem with the wiring or connectors, try cleaning the connectors with a wire brush and reconnecting them. If there is a problem with the turbocharger boost sensor, the sensor will need to be replaced.

2017 KIA SOUL with 120000. miles
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the engine vibrated, abnormally, misfired while idling due to a loss of compression and combustion. The contact performed a diagnostic test on the vehicle and retrieved trouble code: P0242 (catalyst low efficiency below efficiency). The vehicle was taken to Kia of east syracuse (6717 manilus center road, east syracuse, ny 13057, (315)701-5898) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was loss of compression on cylinder #3. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
