P040D

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit High

DTC P040D, sometimes indicated as P040D00 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the auxiliary emissions system causing exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor "a" circuit high.

The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system recycles a small amount of exhaust gas back into the engine to help reduce emissions. The EGR temperature sensor "A" circuit high code means the EGR temperature sensor is reporting a higher-than-normal temperature.
There are several possible causes for this code, including a faulty EGR temperature sensor, a blockage in the EGR system, or a problem with the EGR valve. checking and cleaning the EGR valve and its passages is often the best solution to this code. If the problem persists, the EGR temperature sensor may need to be replaced.
