P0572

Cruise Control/Brake Switch A Circuit Low

DTC P0572, sometimes indicated as P057200 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the engine idling stability causing cruise control/brake switch a circuit low.

This code is set when the PCM detects that the brake switch input voltage is below a calibrated value. This can be caused by a defective brake switch, a short to ground in the wiring to the brake switch, or a low battery voltage.
If this code is set, visually inspect the brake switch and wiring for damage or shorts. If no damage is found, test the brake switch for proper operation. If the brake switch is defective, replace it. If the wiring is damaged, repair it. If the battery voltage is low, recharge or replace the battery.

The check engine bulb is functional (lights up initially when turning on the vehicle), but does not illuminate when there is an engine code reported. I've encountered 2 different problems where the check engine light didn't illuminate. The electronic throttle control was malfunctioning, and the car occasionally went into limp mode, usually on highways while driving straight, sometimes at high speeds, risking a rear end collision. Fortunately the throttle control light illuminated, but there was no check engine light. The cruise control is malfunctioning, disengaging at random times at high speeds on a highway, again risking a rear end collision. No indicator lights illuminate, and there is no check engine light. An engine code read reports error P0572, which indicates a problem with the cruise control, but there is still no check engine light illuminated.
