Park Input Circuit

DTC P081C, sometimes indicated as P081C00 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the causing park input circuit.

This code is set when the PCM detects a malfunction in the park input circuit.
Possible causes of this code include a defective park/neutral switch, a defective shift interlock solenoid, or a defective park/neutral position switch.
If this code is stored, the most likely cause is a defective park/neutral switch. If this switch is defective, the vehicle may not be able to be placed in park, and may move unexpectedly when the brake pedal is applied.
If this code is stored, the shift interlock solenoid may be defective. If this solenoid is defective, the vehicle may not be able to be placed in park, and the shift lever may move unexpectedly.
If this code is stored, the park/neutral position switch may be defective. If this switch is defective, the vehicle may not be able to be placed in park, and the transmission may not shift into park.
If any of these components are defective, the vehicle may not be able to be placed in park, and may move unexpectedly when the brake pedal is applied.
