2000 NISSAN MAXIMA with 71674.0 miles

In october 2004, on the first cool day of the fall season in houston, texas, my 2000 Nissan Maxima gle began to misfire, but the problem corrected itself after a few miles of driving. A month later, on another cool day in november, the problem recurred. This time, the event illuminated the service engine soon lamp. The vehicle has continued to misfire intermittently (but frequently) ever since. When i took the vehicle to my local Nissan dealer for diagnosis, the service adviser pulled two trouble codes (P0306 and P1320) and told me the faults indicated replacement of all six ignition coils (per recommendation of tsb no. 01-059). The dealer wants $75 for each coil, and approximately $200 in labor to install them. Upon further research, i discovered the prevalence of the problem with other '00-'01 Maxima owners. I have owned and maintained my vehicle since it had 4000 miles on the odometer, and this is the first major problem that it has experienced in 72,000 miles. *nm

2000 NISSAN MAXIMA with 53500.0 miles

    2000 NISSAN MAXIMA

The service engine soon light turned on while driving and has remained on. When i first took it in for diagnostic tests i was told that i needed a tune up. The service engine soon light was reset and came on again after only one day. I recently took it in again and P1320 was detected and i was told that my ignition coils were bad. Dealer recommends replacing all 6 coils as they can't determine which coil is actually bad. I have researched this and found that this is the most common problem with the 2000 Nissan Maxima. The dealer advised me that the parts are very costly at least $75 for each coil, plus labor. This does not appear to be safe as the car drives normal, and then will eventually sputter, and vibrate resulting in decreased speed. The engine feels like it is about to fall out, and you can't pick up speed until the vibration stops. This part needs to be recalled, there have been too many consumers having to pay the price for this defective part. *ak

2000 Nissan Maxima se with 56,000 miles. Mil light turned on while driving and stayed on. No knocking or power loss. Went to dealer and found dtc P1320 stored. Dealer said Nissan recommends to replace all 6 ignition coils ! Cost me $800 and Nissan and dealer refused to help pay for the defect. This defect is regular for 1995-2001 Maximas but Nissan refused to recall it or fix it under warranty ! They know about this problem as they have a tsr out for this. The dealer told me many 2000 Maximas are having this problem fixed. But they don't want to take responsibility *la

2000 NISSAN MAXIMA with 160000. miles

2000 Nissan Maxima's have a serious engine ignition coil defect. -- this defect causes the engine to run rough, stall and abruptly and unexpectedly stop during normal use. The engine warning light was little (if any) value in helping alert the driver to the sudden engine failure. The engine has 6 separate coils. The first coil failed and was replaced by the Nissan dealer. It was not covered by any type of Nissan warranty. Within a 90 day period, two additional coils failed and needed to be replaced. Eventually, all 6 ignition coils ultimately needed to be replaced at a cost of over $900.00. The dealer stated this was a "very common problem" with this model, and said eventually all of the coils fail with this Nissan year, make and model. He provide the failure code P1320 and Nissan service reference: ntb01-059. The work was performed by a Nissan dealer in arizona. This manufactures defect needs to be recalled by nhtsa and Nissan needs to service these units before it results in additional accidents, fire or fatalities.

2000 NISSAN MAXIMA with 27000.0 miles

My 2000 Maxima has a check engine light illuminated. Normally, the cars runs fine but approximately 10 times over the last several years in extremely humid conditions and when the temperature is around 50 degrees (f), the idle gets extremely rough. I had the fault codes read and they were P1320 (three times) and P0420 (once). After being read, the codes were reset, but immediately returned. This defect has existed on and off for over two years and has been reset several during this time. When reset the last time, the weather was exactly as described above. The car has 36k miles and is driven around 4k miles per year. My investigation indicated defective coils, which are known problems to Nissan and should have been recalled a long time ago. The car was purchased due to consumer reports great ratings but because of this defect i can safely say that i would never purchase a Nissan automobile again. Asking consumers to pay over $1000 to repair a vehicle built with defective parts is almost criminal. Nissan should own up to its responsibility and recall the known defective parts thus restoring customer satisfaction and vehicle reliability.

2000 NISSAN MAXIMA with 93760.0 miles

Ignition coils failed causing service engine soon light to illuminate. Code was reset after the first time, and on 10-23-06 it returned again with a code of P1320. Engine had misfired between 10-02-06 and 10-23-06 and had exhibited extended cranking time for approximately 1 month before. Starter and battery were replaced before incident. Replacement of starter and batter was likely unnecessary because problem was likely the ignition coils. Car also exhibited loss of power. *nm

My 2000 Nissan Maxima has been experience problems with the "check engine soon" light. A dealer hooked it up to a computer and indicated a code of P1320 - faulty coil - misfire on cylinder 4. He told me in his experience with 2000 Nissan Maximas he can replace one, but customer will be back because the coils are defective and other will eventually go. I feel since they are defective cylinders, Nissan should recall the parts. *nm

Service engine soon light came on at 68000 miles. Took to dealer and they informed me that it was a P1320 code and that the primary ignition coil #4 was faulty. They wanted me to have all 6 ignition coils replaced and all 6 spark plugs for a total of $912. This is a problem that is plaguing a lot of other people. The problem is causing misfiring and rough idling.

Subject* ses cover-up by Infiniti? Comments* cust states the service engine soon warning light is illuminated 1 the problem originated on june 27, 2002 16,068-odo-mileage actions taken work ordered warranty active P0140 rear o2 sensor has excessive high voltage after further research i gained knowledge of an Infiniti september 6, 2001 service bulletin classification ec01 024 reference itb01 052 2000 01 130 mil on?? With dtc P1320 and or spark knock detonation due to ignition coil s substitution of the computer would be a good diagnostic tool unfortunately because the programming is specific to each engine transmission combination and because it a pricey electrical part this is just not done. So they will check on a dvm or scope at the leads of both sensors mentioned to see if everything is on the up and up from the computer. If so, replacing the sensors would be the likely next step. I was not properly informed of the pre existing condition with the 2000-01 I30s i was not allowed to have any input in this recall and or subsequent slow deterioration within these vital controlling electrical parts. Perception of a cover up is being fought by me i am requesting a retroactive review back to june 27, 2002 of this matter under my new research material i am furious that i was no??T granted the common courteous in 2002 of being informed are there more undisclosed situations that i am not aware of? Had i known in 2002 what i know today i would have filed a complaint and or an inquiry. That way i would not have lost my expiration date of filing and would be on record instead of filing in 2005 06 i am perceiving this in that manner holding such crucial information from a consumer is not fair nor justice for consumers under what lawful writings forbid consumers of such crucial information only a home is above this expenditure [email protected]. 1999 NISSAN MAXIMA with 88000.0 miles

While driving my car, it started to miss, sputter, run bad, vibrate and almost turn off. The check engine light came on and after having the codes read (P1320) and researching dtc P1320 and/or spark knock (detonation) due to ignition coil (s). I find out that this is a very common problem with several years of Maximas. I also found out that there are newer coils with a gray dot, that is to be used to replace the older defective ones. Not only are the bad ones recommended for replacement, but all 6 are recommended for replacement. Why is this? I believe is was because of a known defect in the parts. I have already replaced several of these coils and it don't take long before the check engine light is back on, and the car is once again misfiring and getting bad gas mileage because of code P1320, another bad coil. Nissan should recall these cars and fix this continuously ongoing problem . This misfiring on interstates and busy roads at high speeds can be very dangerous, because it slows the car down all of a sudden and could result in a rear end crash. This misfiring also results in fuel not being burned in the cylinder and is wasted.

1999 NISSAN MAXIMA with 30940.0 miles

Vehicle failed to start after repeated attempts. When vehicle started, the "service engine soon" light was illuminated. Engine was misfiring. Dealer ran diagnostic test and retrieved fault code P1320 from the ecu. Was informed that all six ignition coils were defective and need to be replaced. Nissan issued a technical service bulletin (tsb #01-060) in september, 2001, which addresses the problem involving the ignition coils. Dealer refused to cover repair under manufacturer's warranty or goodwill program. This is an obvious manufacturing defect which could result in the engine stalling while being driven, potentially causing an accident and injuries. I request that the nhtsa launch an investigation and order Nissan to recall the affected vehicles and replace the defective ignition coils, free-of-charge. *ak

1999 NISSAN MAXIMA with 77678.0 miles

Vehicle unexpectedly started to run rough, misfired repeatedly, and experienced episodes of near stalling, while driving at highway speeds. The service engine soon light illuminated and vehicle continued to operate under a severe loss of power before being able to safely pull the vehicle off the highway. Dealer determined fault code P1320 was stored and all six ignition coils were faulty and needed to be replaced. Technical service bulletin (tsb #01-060) was issued by Nissan in september 2001, which outlines the ignition coil problem. The dealer refused to cover the repair under manufacturers warranty or extend any goodwill when the technical service bulletin was brought to their attention. This is a critical product defect which could result in a serious accident, injuries, and even death, should the engine stall while driving vehicle. A serious investigation should be initiated by nhtsa demanding Nissan to immediately announce a recall to all vehicles concerned. *ak
